Jin-Soo trotted through the quiet night, his hooves silent against the soft earth. His breath came out in wafting clouds, announcing the cold, and he looked companionably at the small goat by his side.
"Nice night, isn't it?"
He received only a disagreeable har-umph in reply, which was easily laughed off. Goatee wasn't the friendliest of creatures, it was true, but Jin was sure he meant well and always forgave the irritable goat of his sociable offenses. Unfortunately, not everyone was as quick to do so, and they found themselves with only each other for company more oft than not.
"Those pumpkins are beautiful," he tried again, their steps taking them closer and closer to a lone patch of pumpkins. "Have you ever tried one?"
This time, his only reply was silence. Sigh.

Pnevyma Kolokytha pulled his ears forth as he heard the sounds of walking and talking approaching. How queer, he thought thinking that his mind was just playing tricks. Since when did someone even pass by here? Last Halloween perhaps, other than the birds overheard and some lone creatures that he provided some pumpkins to.
Walking silently through the trail of vines, he made sure that they were not here to steal any of his possessions, though there was really nothing that he would actually have been able to do if that were to happen.
"Yes, I have tried them in fact." he said, after noticing that the goat that the stranger was travelling with seemed to lose his words.

Were Jin-Soo a more nervous horse, he might have fled when an unexpected voice appeared or, if not from that, then from the speaker himself. The stranger was small and dark, a light smile-like marking spreading across its cheeks with an eerie glow. Even more, its entire body appeared to give off sheaves of light, like fog rolling off the earth.
Goatee, who had been in the Kawani lands his entire life, was used to such things and passed by the Usdia without even a glance in his direction. Jin-Soo, on the other hand, stood rooted to the spot.
"Who are you?" he asked cautiously. He would've thought it some otherworldly creature had he not recognized the familiar sounds and motions of its horse-speak, and if Goatee didn't see the small male as a threat, surely, it was no danger.

Pnevyma looked at the stranger with a weary eye, catching the drift that he might have freaked him out. So that wasn't much of a good approach, but what's done is done, or so he would say.
"I'm Pnevyma Kolokytha, protector and grower of this patch." he introduced with pride. Though he could tell that now the stallion had his attention, what about his travelling companion, the goat? Now that they were a talking distance away, he saw in fascination of how both the stallion and goat looked somewhat the same from their markings. What was that word again? Oh, yes, familiar. He noted to ask the stranger about that subject later.
Lowering his head to the ground as to give a somewhat bow, his eyes looked up. It wasn't frequent that someone would speak to him after seeing his appearance, but least this one didn't run off! "And you are?"

Jin flickered his ears at the introduction, impressed.
"I am Jin-Soo," he began with a polite dip of his head, "wanderer of this land, and admirer of your well-kept patch."
His eyes roamed over the pumpkins in proof of it, and he smiled at their soft sheen in the starry light.
"I've never seen any grown outside of a two-legger's land. I didn't think it was possible to make one without their help, but yours appear as healthy as can b-- Goatee!"
The cry may have appeared humorous, given Goatee's name and all, but was laced with such strong warning that even the obstinate goat to which it was addressed felt compelled to heed it.
Goatee stepped back from the pumpkin he had just been about to eat and, throwing his head back with a snort, he went off to inspect the vines instead.

He just couldn't stop it, but while Jin-Soo was speaking, all he could think of was the one that was referred as 'Goatee'. He wondered if that was even his name, chances are were that it was. "I've been giving special care to these once they were planted," he commented, dropping his eyes to a blooming pumpkin. "Ah, this one's kind of late for last season huh?"
Sort of lost with tendering that one bloom, his ears shot up and smiled. "Your friend may snack upon as much pumpkins as he wishes. It's not often that one would even come this close to them."

Smiling with a great show of outward satisfaction, Goatee immediately returned to the original pumpkin he'd "claimed" and, with no gratitude offered whatsoever, began his feast.
Jin sighed and shook his head, but was glad for Pnevyma's kindness.
"My friend and I thank you," he said with another dip of his head, ignoring the pieces of pumpkin he was sure Goatee was purposely directing his way as he ate.
"I'm sure it'll grow well, if the others are anything to tell by," he said with a soft smile, eying the late bloomer. For a moment, he said nothing more, but stood in silence (or as silent as it could get when a goat was eating messily nearby). Then, politely but eagerly, "If you don't mind, may I know how you manage to care for them? I would love to know."

Smiling, he enjoyed making his visitors content while they were here. After all, chances are that if you did not start with a good impression, word might spread to end the whole thing. He was not sure whether his smile creeped Jin-Soo out or not, but it did not matter much now. What is done is done, and that was one of his favorite sayings, telling him to forgive and forget.
He nodded in satisfaction at Jin-Soo's words, taking them for a fact while taking a quick glance at Goatee. Never before had he seen a creature eat a pumpkin that messy though! All he could do was give a little chuckle in amusement. "Why, I just give them a tad of this Halloween spirit that many have told me about while walking by." He looked directly at the stallion now. "Every night, I would tell them stories about Halloween, they seem to enjoy them..... but then again, I was told that pumpkins are better larger for that season. Even some wandering creatures would sometimes assist me to remove the weeds and worms!" He was not sure if that was what the stallion wanted to hear, but least it was the truth.
"And you two were just walking along the trail here, I assume?"

Had Pnevyma been of a more unruly disposition, Jin might have been spooked. However, by then, he knew the Usdia was kind-hearted, and felt no fear despite the skull-like markings over his eyes, and the spiked line accentuating the curve of his lips. And so, when Pnevyma smiled, he was more than happy to return one of his own.
"Halloween spirit!" he mused aloud. Up until he'd traveled to the Kawani lands, he'd been a very down-to-earth sort of fellow. He wouldn't have believed such a thing was possible before, but already he'd seen Soquili capable of flight, and even those who lived despite their rotting flesh and exposed skeletons. Why, even Pnevyma had spectral light coming off him, and the beautiful patch was proof that the Usdia spoke the truth.
"That's amazing!" he cried with a childish wonder, awed and pleased by the magics of this land.
"Yes, my friend and I were wandering. We're new--" a pumpkin stem hit him on the nose "--that is, I'm new, and wanted to explore. Goatee was kind enough to accompany me.
But, tell me," he said, forgetting his docile politeness amidst his excitement. "Have the pumpkins had their story today?"
If Pnevyma told them tales every night, it was possible he'd be able to witness one that day, and the prospect filled him with anticipation, 'though he tried to quench it. It was already late, and there was a chance a story had already been told that night, after all.
Goatee pretended to ignore the two Soquili but, after he'd finished off the first pumpkin, he moved to a second closer to the pair, one ear tilted curiously towards them.
