Here's where you can post idioms that don't translate well, but have an English equivalent. I made a key...

arrow 1st 3 letters of the foreign language: (SPA=Spanish, FRE=French)
arrow ET=exact translation
arrow ENG=What it's English equivalent is.

You can also post other sayings, and it's not necessary to post the exact translation, that's just for fun.

Really? That's odd...French must be unique.

I would say it's probably because of French literature. Lots of French expressions are taken from famous authors (eg Voltaire) and have never really found their way into English.

SPA: Hablando del rey de Roma.
ET: Speaking of the king of Rome.
ENG: Speaking of the devil.

This one has an exact traslation

SPA: Roma no fue constuida en un dia.
ET/ENG: Rome wasn't built in one day.

Hm, not sure if this counts, but it's sort of a slang phrase.

GER: Du kannst mich mal/Du mich auch.
ET: You can me once/You me too.
ENG: Kiss my a**.
