we visited there and i wanted to see all the tattoos, but was disappointed to find out the tattoo was an ancient military ritual enacted at the Castle.

of course i was very young at the time

Kav was extremely disappointed that I didn't go to the Military Tattoo! We had a lot of fun going to the Fringe Festival though. The Royal Mile is full of performers - theatre groups, a capella groups, comedians, etc - promoting their shows. It felt like one great big party.

we stayed a couple days with a Scots family and they fed us cakes!

all different kinds of delicious baked goods.

here i thought the Danes and French had excellent cakes and disparaged the Scots (my own people!) but how wrong i was.

This is definitely on my to-go list. It's nice to be able to step out of a city and find green.

I think the vibe would be completely different if we'd gone there outside of the fringe festival and summer. Aside from that, Edinburgh is such a picturesque city! And they have such a strong literary heritage - I think their international book festival is on at the same time as the fringe festival.

We actually visited a LOT of parks on our trip. It's the sort of thing that you just don't take as much advantage as you should in your home town. sweatdrop I mean, the Melbourne botanic gardens are a 15min walk from my office in the middle of the city, and Kav's place is a 10min drive from the forest.

The Londoners definitely know how to enjoy their parks - they were PACKED as soon as there was a glimpse of sunlight. I'm sure I read that 40% or some other ridiculously large amount of London is covered in parks. I actually really liked the park in Madrid - they have a giant boating lake which was really peaceful to sit and watch.

There are sweet tooths (and therefore bakers of one kind or another) wherever you go! xd I am devasated that I didn't get a proper devonshire tea or high tea experience in the UK, but there's always next time! And we had the best breakfasts at our B&B in Edinburgh. I need to learn how to make porridge like that!
