I haven't seen the play, but I LOVED the OBC
That was the first thing I bought, instead of the movie soundtrack
I prefer it a LOT
It just has so much more character!
I prefer Tracie to the original Joanne, Fredi, though >.<

I've seen the play twice and it really depends on the cast for me. Like I love the movie because you can see how much they really enjoy it. And that their feelings are real. But I love the musical because I feel more included. As if I'm watching it as it happens and not after. And for all of you guys who are going to see the play you are going to love it. I was balling when I first saw it though. And the second time. And everytime I watched the movie. Oh just bring tissues.

No contest, the play is better.
Though, I'm a sucker for live theatre....it's always much realer and more raw for me that way. Plus, you get Christmas Bells, You Okay Honey?, We're Okay, Halloween, Contact, and the rest of Goodbye Love.
La Vie Boheme is so much better live.
It can depend on the cast....the last cast I saw was great. They weren't the OBC, obviously, but it's more about the characters...their emotions and issues and it's their story.
You'll love the play.

First time I saw it on broadway was in 1998. I was seven. My sister took me. I don't rememberit too clearly, Joanie said I got up and danced in the aisles. I don't remember doing this. Haha. I saw it two more times in NYC since then.
And then again today. whee It was amazing this time, so much more alive and inspiring then the movie. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie! But being the broadway whore that I am, there's simply no comparison for me. I mean, yea, I wish I could see the OBC now, but the show's still a show and it's amazing. Arianda, the girl who played Mimi sounded exactly like Rosario during Light My Candle. Her voice was so perfect. Then she got all raw and powerful during Out Tonight. It was amazing.
I'm getting off-topic. It's prolly personal preference, but if you ever get to see the show live..GO! It'll rock your socks!! 3nodding

For me, it would have to be the movie, though I've never seen the Broadway show (i'm dying to though, and hope I get to some day.) I've heard the OBCR though and just don't like it as much. It was cool hearing some of the songs they cut from the movie, but I for one hated the original Mimi. I really just can't stand her voice. And Mark sounded so much whinier to me, as well as Roger's voice was too deep and rough making him sound ridiculously broody all the time. He had more variety in the movie, in my opinion, so I liked it better.
