✥ { CLASS } ------------------------ Trance (DAY 4. p23)

Kemnebi woke on the cold, hard floor, muscles stiff and painful. Reaching up, she rubbed an hand across her face, trying to wipe the images of what had happened out of her mind. They were simultaneously dreamlike and sharp as if she were viewing them all over again. Sitting up, she looked at Medea feeling the stirring of anger thrill through her all over again. Taking a deep breath, the were-panther forced herself to relax.

Their teacher was talking in riddles again. "Your guidance forward will yield greater consequences... what you lack more than anything else is knowledge...using trance to see the error in our actions."

The error in our actions? Did she mean what the horsemen had done to bring about the apocalype...or what Kemnebi herself had done during the visions. She had killed humans, helped the clansmen kill off both hunters and regular human beings, the source of their FEAR.... And then she had ended up becomeing food herself.

The hunters were scary...but they were also important. They were the only real protection against any Halloween citizen or horseman that decided to try and eradicate humans. The regular humans were just as important. They were a resource...a renewable resource if no one went out and commited genocide.

Kemnebi sent a wary look towards her teacher. No matter what she ended up decideing, she was still leery of the clans right now.

Had it really happened? Siddie wasn't certain. She picked herself up slowly, stiff and aching as though she's been asleep too long and the hard cold floor. Using trance to see the error in one's actions ... it made sense, and Siddie shivered a little. Had what she had done in the visions led inexorably to the terrible ending? What would have happened if she had chosen differently?

All paths lead to the same place. Then why was choice important? If everything was destined to fall into the same outcome ... no, she couldn't believe that. There must be a way to change the horrifying vision of the future she'd seen in the trance.

But why had Medea shown them that future? Weren't the Four Clans in accord about the things they did? Or was there disagreement between them? Siddie knew too personally that the awful, hungry glyphs in the vision were real. What else was real? What did Medea want from them?

What did Medea want from her? Maybe that was the central question. Siddie still didn't know what the class had been meant to teach them. She had come away with more questions than answers.

Maybe, she thought, maybe that was important by itself.

There was a loud noise, of doors being thrown open. One would have thought that this guardian, after years of being around priestesses, might have learned the meaning of the word subtlety, or perhaps even gentleness. What he had learned, at least, was that priestesses were into manly men, so he tried, he really did--

Alke sauntered into the temple, the usual grin on his face. He stepped over some students still lying on the ground, his boots so narrowly missing them, almost as if he'd done it on purpose. It was straight for Medea that he headed, not even bothering to look at any of the other students- uncharacteristic, considering the looks of confusion on their faces. Normally he would have messed with them a little, probably, but today he had something of utmost importance to do.

Reaching his priestess, Alke bowed to her respectfully, then got down on one knee, holding a box out and opening it--

"I've obtained what you asked for." Willow bark incense, extremely rare, and also Medea's favourite. He waited for her to take the box before standing again, holding a hand out to her.

"The priestesses cannot start the ritual without you," he reported, his tone far more businesslike than usual. "If you will permit me to guide you there?"

The intruder's appearance had started several of the other Priestesses that were beginning to file back into the room as well, though some did give him a rather flirtatious wink, others hiding shyly behind their cloaks and giggling - well it was best not to ask.

Medea however, seemed entire unsurprised, instead, giving a slight nod to the students. "I apologize that this session on Trance has been short and clipped at best, it is not something that can be taught or understood in one sitting. All I ask is for all of you to bring one thought with you: is it better to know what will cause an outcome, or to push forward blind? Ignorance is for the young, we may not always like what we see, but ignoring it will not prevent the outcome."

A loud clang as a hollow bell began to chime above. The head priestess pointed towards the door. "All paths lead to the same result, but what defines who you are is the path you take from beginning to end. Good bye, students."

She took the box from Alke, walking slowly as a procession of priestesses joined them, preparing for the next ceremony.
