i dont think shes cold hearted, most people just take her actions the wrong way. for everything wrong she does she has a good reason. And who knows maybe she is just lonley, she has no one in her life to love but inuyasha and hes off with Kagome and the others, so what really does she have?

No, she's definitely not cold-hearted. I think that would be difficult to say about anyone who picks flowers with children and risks their own life to protect their village, don't you?
I think that people misunderstand this aspect of Kikyou because they never got past who she acted when she was first resurrected. Yeah, she was pissed because she had just been resurrected after getting betrayed, so I'm not surprised that she acted a little inappropriate. But I'm pretty sure if that happened to anyone they'd be a little cranky. xp
Anyway, I think that they link all of Kikyou's behaviour to the way she acted before she knew about Naraku, and that's not right. They always use the fact that she's not as emotional as the other characters, doesn't show a lot of affection, etc., etc., blah, blah. I find this odd as well, because it's been explicitly stated in the series several times that, much like Inuyasha, Kikyou was never really able to be a part of "normal" society. She missed out on all of that normal human interaction that most people get so that she could do her duty as a miko, which is quite obviously why she doesn't react as warmly to others as many of the rest of the characters do. But she still helps people, so I don't see how people can say she's cold-hearted.
You notice that people never hate Sesshoumaru for this reason, even though you'd probably have a slightly better case with him. Maybe if Kikyou were hotter, people wouldn't say that she's cold. confused
In conclusion: I agree. She's not cold-hearted, and people who say that aren't paying attention.

She's just lonely. People will act mean at times when they are lonely, but wouldn't anyone else act that way? I would go further in dept, but I would take up way too much space.

True, but some people just think that way. You can't really blame them for the way they think. Still, I agree with everyone here. I'm just saying that perhaps there's another way to look at it.

Kikyou is simply trying to carry out her duty regardless of what others may think.
It's like how a government might raise taxes to fund major health improvements. People might hate the government for raising taxes, but in the end, lives would be saved thanks to better health care facilities (although realistically speaking, most governments just take your money to fund their retirement packages).
Kikyou's ultimate resposibility was to protect others from harm. If the Shikon jewel had fallen into the wrong hands, it poses a threat to those that Kikyou is responsible for, hence why managing the jewel became part of her responsibility.
Many of the actions that are seen as 'evil' by some are in my opinion were a necessary part of Kikyou's duty, or she acted on misinformation. For example, dragging Inuyasha to hell was part of Kikyou's job to keep bad youkai from harming others, but she was unaware that Inuyasha was innocent and had little reason to doubt that he was guilty.

i agree with everyone here. kikyo is sad and lonley. she acts dark and mysterious, but actually have a warm soft heart inside that so called 'mean and cold hearted' body. she suffered too much pain. how can somei=one not do that? i mean she had to die and revive 3 times. everyone she loves cannot return her feelings. so what if shes dead? she still desearves a right to love and hate. and when she said she felt happy having a new body? she is just faking it. she has no one but herself. fighting all alone in this cruel wourld.

(OBVIOUSLY) she is sad and alone, it truely isn't kikyous fault, she wasn't open the the "normal world" she had to be on duty 24/7 with her "job" protecting the jewel-so even if the case were that she were cold hearted (which shes not)-she has good reasononing for over reacting a bit at times-she really didn't know how to react to the betrayal-becasue she wasn't really open to it before, and with her "first time" being so strong and "hurtful"-it all came as a shock i guess u can say, since it was a new feeling-STRONG feeling. But that isn't really the case-u have to give her serious credit for staying so strong (when she was resurrected) ESPECIALLY with inuyasha running off with kagome so kikyou had noone to go to...she was alome and i suppose u can say abandoned when she came back (i guess she kinda scared him a bit sweatdrop -trying to take him to hell and all) but like everyone has been saying-it was for a good cause-and even inuyasha said that he would go to hell with her. I hate how people dont really think things through with her emotions and automatically hate' her. and just for the record i think inuyasha should throw kagome over the edge of a cliff or something becasue she is ruining the whole relationship with kikyou and inu!!!!(dont get me started with that evil )anyways my conclusion:sad and very very very lonely/alone cry -and people who think shes evil aren't thinking things through

I would say both. Yes, Kikyou is very kind (example: helping children), but she is, at the same time, very cold and very bitter. I don't blame her for it. She died believing that her own lover killed her and was ressurected with her memories fixated into the day she died. At the time Kikyou died, she felt bitter and I'm positive that she was feeling rather cold-hearted. Yet, at the same time, she was still in love with Inuyasha (which was why she let herself die) and was sad about the consequences.
This makes her sad. She doesn't try and cover up her feelings, but she does, to a certain extent, act cold to the point where she seems uncaring. As the manga goes on, the viewers learn more about her. They realize that there is a reason why Kikyou is so cold and sad, and because of that reason, they pity her... or at least that's how I felt. I never really disliked Kikyou when she first appeared, but as the series progressed, I began to like her more and more.
My conclusion to that is yes, Kikyou is cold-hearted AND sad at the same time. People do not turn cold for no reason. There must be something behind the iciness that makes someone the way they are. I know this because I was cold and icy when I was in High School. Kikyou isn't just sad and alone. She is cold-hearted and even if she didn't want to be like that, she really has no choice.

I think Kikyo is alone and a bit sad, but she purposefully chooses to be. If that's a part of her motivation, it's the smallest.

Kikyou is definitely far from cold-hearted-- though she seems to have the aura of gloom around her, you can obviously telll--- she hasn't lost her Miko heart.
