Topic : Overcoming temptation - Part 1
Foundation Verse : 1 Corinthians 10:13 (AMP) For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.
Daily Application :
Everyday we are faced with temptations to sin but Paul tells us in his letter to the Corinthian church that no temptation is too much for us to bear because God Himself is faithful and just to give us a way of escape that we don't have to suffer from temptation. In James 1:12-18, James tells us that God blesses those who endure temptation, also it goes on to say that God tempts no one to do wrong and that the root of temptation actually comes from our desires and when we give way to our desires it gives birth to sinful actions.
Have you ever dwelled on a desire? For example; You are a single individual and all of a sudden this desire to have a significant other comes about and then when you begin to give into that desire the enemy comes and puts thoughts of lust and perverts it. That's what James is warning us about, Desires when given into temptation leads to an action of sin and when that sin is allowed to grow. That's why we are not to give any place for the devil to have a grip on us. (Eph. 4:27)
Remember everyday we will be faced with battles (temptation) but the war has already been won. So just like in James 1:2-4, know that when troubles and temptations come your way, know that its an opportunity for you to grow.
