Hey there, readers! Some of you guys may have heard about the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) going around the American Congress. Gaia's new item, Bar of SOPA, is spreading the word and raising awareness about this controversial topic. We here at GOM want to hear your opinion on the topic, and whether you're American or not, we know you'll have something to say about this. Please post your opinions below and feel free to keep up relevant conversations!
And remember, a healthy debate is good, but don't let it get out of hand! Those who fail to comply will have their posts deleted and will be banned from the guild - and if necessary, reported. Don't hate others because they have a different opinion; no one's opinion is right or wrong.Helpful links for you to read up on it: WikipediaCNETIBTimesMore

I'm okay with SOPA music wise because as a musician myself i lose money when that happens but for the Tele I'm not a fan because I watch livestreams DW against the BBC and I love that show I've been watching it since I was a little boy and I don't get why the BBC is against the free ability to watch their programs for americans

BUT, there would be a LOT of innocent people persecuted over nothing because of this bill. They should make bills that are far less broad... like targeting the torrents. Just bring down limewire, or bit torrent, or...what ever! Not the people that probably can't even afford the music so they go to desperate measures...

Meia15 GuinAoiichi check out my sig. And can we post videos? Of course! Go ahead and post whatever, be it an article, video, whatever! http://youtu.be/WJIuYgIvKscThis vid explains last years Net Neutrality. http://youtu.be/Aq4B52dK6IEThis link takes you to another site with a vid that goes into more detail than the first. (click on the number 2) its about 20 min. http://www.filmon.com/cbsyousuck/Also aside from the Freedom of Speech , do you guys know which other part of the Constitution this new law will violate? I think its Article one Section Nine clause three. Any Law student out there ,care to verify?? You know what i would like to see? What the current presidential candidates have to say about this Bill.... And if Obama Vetos it, then i'll probably vote for him. ( i voted for Nader last time)

theMeji You should all just migrate to Europe if it happens. cool Unfotunately, it affects all countries, according to what I've read and heard. Something about the fact that they will prosecute anyone outside the country, regardless. I don't have all the information, though, so don't jump the gun with this one.

If the illegal content originates from America (like an American movie, song, etc.) or is pointed towards Americans, the government plans to have the culprit extradited to America and be punished. They're currently trying to do that to a 22-year-old British university student. emotion_donotwant

I dont know if you all have the time to read the actual Bills. Quote: You can go to the Library of Congress site ( here), there will be a link on the right side of the page that will take you to Thomas division ( here), which is the online library for current bills on the floor of both House and Senate, and past bills. Here you will see a search box, make sure to select by bill number, and then enter these below: Protect IP is: S.986 SOPA is: H.R.3261.
