WWE.com, in conjunction with The Academy of Wrestling Arts & Sciences, ranks the Top 25 Superstars in wrestling each week with POWER 25. The rankings are based on victories, quality of opponents, momentum and overall in-ring dominance, as well as intangibles.
Every Saturday night there's a new list for the previous week. I'll definately post it weekly. It's really helpful for those of you (or us) that are playing the WWE fantasy game right now on wwe.com. I usually reference it before I pick my guys for the week.
Let me know what you guys think.
Rankings for February 4th
1. KURT ANGLE (last week he was also # 1)
Is the World Heavyweight Championship in grave danger? The Wrestling Machine will be difficult to dethrone. 2. JOHN CENA (last week he was #3)
Cena propelled himself back into the No. 2 spot by beating the Rated R Superstar for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. 3. REY MYSTERIO (last week was #17)
Mysterio wrote his way into the history books by winning the Royal Rumble... Record-breaking performance catapults Rey into Top 3.
4. TRIPLE H (last week was #7)
After impressive performance in the Rumble, The Academy sees The Game as the favorite in the Road to WrestleMania Tournament.
5. EDGE (last week was #2)
Disqualification victory Monday night felt like a loss 6. CHRIS BENOIT (last week was # cool
The Rabid Wolverine climbs to No. 6 after a half hour in the Rumble and disqualification victory over Finlay on SmackDown. 7. SHAWN MICHAELS (last week was #4)
With the McMahon men gunning for him, it'll be tough for HBK to work his way back into the Top 5. 8. RANDY ORTON (last week was #11)
Made up for Rumble elimination at SmackDown... Will compete for WrestleMania championship match at No Way Out. 9. BIG SHOW (was ranked #9 last week as well)
Poor Rumble performance, but impressive win over Masters & Carlito on Monday night. 10. KANE (last week was #6)
Beating Masters & Carlito on RAW was not enough to make up for the Big Red Machine's 3-minute stint in the Royal Rumble.
11. MARK HENRY (last week was #5)
Lost to Angle at the Rumble, but is always a threat for the World Heavyweight Championship. 12. MNM (last week they were #1 cool
Mercury & Nitro looked great individually at the Rumble, and as a team on SmackDown. 13. THE BOOGEYMAN (last week was #15)
Decisive win over the "Wrestling God" at the Rumble... Everybody's afraid of the Boogeyman... Look out Top 10. 14. CARLITO (last week was #16)
Carlito climbs to No. 14 after defeating Viscera and Masters during his 38 minutes in the Rumble. 15. LASHLEY (last week was #13)
The hard-hitting Lashley made an example out of Chad d**k on SmackDown... Is JBL next? 16. ROB VAN DAM (not ranked last week.. considering he returned AT the rumble and all... I see this one going WAY up this Saturday when the results come out)
Eye-opening return at the Royal Rumble, and solid victory over Snitsky on RAW. 17. CHRIS MASTERS (last week was #12)
The Masterpiece had a rough week, but has Top 10 potential.
18. RIC FLAIR (last week was #10)
Is the Nature Boy still feeling the effects of the TLC Match? 19. BOOKER T (last week was #14)
Undisputed United States Champion? The Academy thinks not. (Lady has to agree with them!) 20. SHELTON BENJAMIN (same spot as last week)
Confidence + momma = Intercontinental Championship? 21. JBL (last week was #19)
JBL's stock is falling faster than Enron. 22. TRISH STRATUS (last week was #21)
Mickie loves Trish? Does Trish love Mickie? 23. GREGORY HELMS (not in the rankings last week)
Helms promises to change the Cruiserweight Division. 24. TREVOR MURDOCH (same spot as last week)
Trevor continues to git 'er done.
25. ORLANDO JORDAN (not ranked... nor should he be LOL)
Orlando seems poised to be a player again on the POWER 25.

Lashley has the Dicks beat in recent weeks, but will need to step it up even more when he faces JBL. 16. UNDERTAKER (was not ranked last week as he JUST came back into the ring)

Wormed his way out of the Top 15.

The Nature Boy is working his way out of the POWER 25. 21. BOOKER T (#19 last week)
Looks like Booker's future may be behind the mic. 22. SHELTON BENJAMIN (#20 last week)
Shelton's dropping faster than momma at ringside. 23. JBL (#21 last week)
The self-proclaimed Wrestling God's future in the POWER 25 looks bearish.

Trish already rules the women's division... Is head referee in her future? 25. MARIA (Was not ranked last week)
She pinned Lita, and she's hot! NR

WWE Heavyweight Champion Maria deserves a better ranking The rankings are based on victories, quality of opponents, momentum and overall in-ring dominance.. not to mention how much charisma they have in promos and if they fight it out backstage. Maria is still very much so a backstage personality. If they whole rivalary with Lita will take off she very well might be in the power 25 some day.

Rankings for the week ending April 1st. Keep in mind these ended the day before Mania so things are going to change... and I figure that'll be DRASTIC!:
Yeah you get commentary this time because I'm in the mood to say stuff regarding Mania in and the effects of Mania on the power 25.
1. KURT ANGLE (he's up from #2 because he made RKO and Rey tap out during their match
2. JOHN CENA (drops into 2nd place this week)
3. TRIPLE H (Sitting strong in 3rd)
4. RANDY ORTON (well with 60 days suspension.. I doubt he'll stay here for long. He was in 4th last time too).
5. CHRIS BENOIT (still in 5th, but I fear his loss at mania might change his ranking... damned JBL)
6. KANE (up one from 7th place, but I fear that their loss to a group of cheerleaders might hinder his placement).
7. BIG SHOW (dropping from 6th)
8. REY MYSTERIO (steady in 8th, but I'm sure that will change since Mania)
9. EDGE (Steady in 9th. I think that with his kick a** showing at Mania that he will go up in the power 25 for next week).
10. SHELTON BENJAMIN (still 10th. He bores the hell out of me.)
11. UNDERTAKER (strong in 11th)
12. MARK HENRY (Still in 12th, but after getting his a** handed to him at Mania.. I'm sure he'll drop)
13. LASHLEY (up from 14th, but that's because apparantly the academy thought he was the shoe in for Mania. Thanks RVD smile )
14. RIC FLAIR (up from 15th. His old a** really needs to consider taking time off to either train *the man tits are scary* or just to retire!)
15. ROB VAN DAM (drops from 13. That'll change this week thanks to the mania match) 16. CHRIS MASTERS (drops one from 15th. What a shame)
17. FINLAY (drops one spot from 16th.) 18. SHAWN MICHAELS (still 18th, but after his match at Mania.. he'd better get a launch in the rankings.)
19. THE BOOGEYMAN (up from 21st. Anyone else not care?)
20. MNM (drops one spot from 19th) 21. JBL (up from 23rd. Sadly he'll go up because he cheated and won the title off of Benoit *yeah I'm a Benoit fan)
22. CARLITO (up one spot from 23rd).
23. SPIRIT SQUAD (up from 24th. You know it's sad.. you can severely injure a wrestler and still be in the power 25. I say send them back to cheer camp)
24. MATT HARDY (not ranked last week) 25. SHANE McMAHON (took a nose dive down five spots because he wasn't around!)

As I predicted... Many changes have happened in the power 25 since Mania. Here's what the Academy had to say:
1. JOHN CENA (Going up from #2. I seriously think he's running out of time though) 2. REY MYSTERIO (up from 8th. His Mania Victory placed him here)
3. KURT ANGLE (Drops from 1st. His Mania loss didn't help) 4. EDGE (up from 9th. As much as I hate him.. ya gotta give him credit because he and Foley put on a great match).
5. TRIPLE H (Drops from 3rd because of the Mania loss) 6. UNDERTAKER (up from 11th... Taker's 14-0 for Manias now!)
7. SHELTON BENJAMIN (up from 10th. Not sure why he's higher then RVD, but whatever.)
8. CHRIS BENOIT (drops from 5th because of the loss of the title at Mania) 9. ROB VAN DAM (up from 15th. That money in the bank win gave RVD a major boost this week).
10. KANE (When you lose to a bunch of cheerleaders... You normally take a drop in rank. He's down from 6th)
11. BIG SHOW (drops from 7th) 12. RANDY ORTON (up from 13th.. Not like it'll last since he's suspended for 60 days for being a jerk)
13. SHAWN MICHAELS (Up from 18th.. and about dang time!)
14. LASHLEY (I smell King Of the Ring victory...drops from 13th) 15. JBL (up from 21st, but he had to cheat to win.) 16. MARK HENRY (drops from 12th. Yeah Taker did exactly what he said he would.)
17. THE BOOGEYMAN (up from 19th)
18. RIC FLAIR (drops from 14th. He's too old to wrestle anyways). 19. CHRIS MASTERS (drops from 16th because he sucks)
20. SPIRIT SQUAD (up from 23rd... don't get me started on how much I hate them)
21. FINLAY (Drops from 17th. I love angry Irish men!) 22. CARLITO (Steady at 22... still sucks!)
23. MNM (drops from 23rd.) 24. MATT HARDY (steady at 24. He really needs a boost!)
25. MICKIE JAMES (she wasn't rated last week. She's one crazy lady!)
