This was posted on the Doctor Who facebook page yesterday:

"There's been a lot of talk today about the possibility of a Doctor Who movie - a feature film remains in development with BBC Worldwide Productions in Los Angeles. But, as of yet there is no script, cast or production crew in place."

What do we think? People are worried, as am I, that it would suffer the fate of Torchwood and become horribly americanised and s**t, however if done well it could be the best thing to happen to the series. What do you think, should Doctor Who hit the big screen?

Ehhh...they've done DW movies in the past and they were not great, to say the least. So I'm skeptical.

Hopefully it would just be like a long Doctor Who episode. Sure, the story has to be a bit more extravagant, but the filming, comic elements and characters shouldn't be changed for it. If they are, I'm just going to go on a rampage.

I'm hesitant to be super excited but the truth is I would absolutely love to see a DW movie~
If it was done well? Even better.
If it was done epically? I'd flip!
Tbh as long as it's better than the Fox movie I'd probably be raving about it sweatdrop

#1 Question: Who's the Doctor?
(#2: Companion?)

I'm sure it's very easy to bash the hell out of the Fox version, but let's not forget the things they improved by making it a bit americanised and large-scale. For example, the opening title sequence has got to be the absolute best version of the Doctor Who theme that has ever been arranged. Secondly, the TARDIS set was also at it's peak in that film, never been better.

I'm actually quite fond of the Fox movie (in particular the Tardis set, McGann, and all the spin-offs that resulted... plus I'm always always a sucker for regeneration), but there were some flaws [not to mention that one bit of continuity most people ignore] in it that make it difficult to watch in the wrong mood, if that makes sense? I guess more than a couple of the old serials were like this as well. Basically I'd hope that it takes more after some of the nifty things they've done with the new seasons.
Oh, and yeah, the theme was epic there.
But it can be an easy target.

Hmm, thinking on the Fox movie, I wonder who'd they choose as a villain for this?
It's always easy to choose one of the more recognizable recurring foes, but I hope that they'd either pick less-commonly used ones or create an entirely new one. I mean Daleks are cool and all but I think part of me would face-palm if they were the majority of the/only plot of a Dr. Who movie. At the very least bring in some new... thing.
(I'd almost like the Rani to crop up there seems to be more potential to her character than was really exploited)

Yeah I agree with the thing about the Daleks. I think we're all a little bit tired of them now. It would be cool to see a Time War based film though, but maybe not base it around the Daleks...

*gasp* I would love a Time War film. maybe focusing more on the Time Lords.

Yeah I think it was implied that the Time Lords themselves were the main threat towards the end of the War, which is why the doc killed them off.

From what I hear, the doctor who movie in question, will not be connected to the series or any of the story, only the concept of the doctor and tardis..

That being pointed out I am very skeptical of the movie in talks. Though as for actors Hugh Laurie as the doctor and his old partner fry as the master would be awesome.

He didn't kill them. He "borrowed" the tardis ( or as the tardis said: she borrowed him...) and the end of his race became a fixed point in time. Meaning they can't be saved nor could he bring them back without destroying the universe.

He stole the Tardis long before the Time War. He used something referred to as "the moment" to destroy both the Daleks and the Time Lords. It's not about fixed points. The Time war was in a time lock so nothing could get in or out (unless the writers said differently). The Doctor's Tardis had nothing to do with the Time War.

The guy that's going to direct the film is David Yates, the guy who directed the Harry Potter films. And the official Doctor Who website has confirmed that it's all true.
