In my State of Georgia there is a convention every March known as Momo Con. It is normally a 2 day FREE ANIME CONVENTION with plenty of dealers, anime veiwing rooms and all regular events at cons except for special guests and panels.
We like it this way because people who normally don't have the money to get into conventions (let alone buy merchandise at cons) can still go, enjoy themselves with other otakus and introduces more people into anime (especially a younger audience). Adults can even go in with the their child/teens who can't drive without paying A CENT!
Sadly though, this year the con is charging admission from 25-30 for what is now going to be a 3 day convention with supposed guest (that have yet to be announced).
Why is this a problem? Because Atlanta, GA already has Anime Weekend Atlanta, Seishun Con, and of course Dragon Con which are all very expensive to get into (the highest being Dragon Con with $120 for a 4 day pass) and all have numerous special guests and events.
Momo is suppose to be a stepping stone that introduce people to conventions, anime, and cosplay with costing a year of allowance.
Plus it isn't just people in Georgia but also people from Flordia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, and even Tennessee all come to Momo Con. This convention acted as a meet up place for long distance friends all over the south east.
So what can we do? I have a petition which you can find in the link below. If you live in the South East of the Untied States and are an anime who planned on going to Momo Con as a free convention please, SIGN IT!!!!
