She asked me to start shaving her legs. WTF? When did she turn into a preteen?

And no. I'm not quite ready for that. She'll slice an artery. I bought her Nair instead.

However, she pitched a major fit in the store today over a swimsuit because I wouldn't let her get a string bikini. ******** no kid. A tankini will be just fine. Even a midrift. Until you start pitching a fit that the top is too long. Then I will buy you a one peice.

Sincerly,
Your mother

My mom didn't let me shave and wear makeup until high school, and for the most part, I think I turned out okay. But at the time, I seriously thought I was going to die and all the girls were going to bully me and boys wouldn't like me and OH MY GOD IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD, MOM YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE. But I grew out of it. The funny thing is, now, as a certified grown-up (yeah, right xD) I practically never shave my legs because it turned out to not be that important.

But she always let me pick out all my clothes/swimsuits. Then again, apparently I never picked out anything she thought was trashy, just stuff she thought was weird. Hell, my mom wears more revealing clothes than me. Apparently I'm the prude!

Would something like a monokini be a good compromise with her? They are a little more revealing than a tankini, but not so much like a bikini. But then again, I have no idea how old your daughter is. You said preteen so I'm assuming like 11-12. Those are really hard years on a girl, especially these days in our SEXXXX SEXXX SEXXXXXXXXX culture.

But what do I know, I'm not a mommy like you. You guys always seem to know best. razz

oh god i would never let my child use nair/veet/anything like that. that stuff gives me chemical burns even if i used the sensitive skin formula and leave it on for the minimum time. i rather let them shave.

Yeahhhh, I always got chemical burns from Nair, and what was worse was it left this film on my skin that I couldn't scrub or wash off, which made the burn even worse. D:

I ended up sitting on the couch with Aloe Lidocaine gel on my lobster red legs.

I've been terrified of it ever since.

I know people that use veet though and like it.

My mom let me start shaving when I was 11/12. Although I actually asked her if I could use Nair instead of shaving, and she was like 'lol okay' and once I tried it, I was like PLEASE CAN I SHAVE INSTEAD???

Also maybe she just needs to see that tankinis and less revealing swimsuits can still be cute. I never had the confidence to wear a bikini when I was younger (also my mom never would have let me, lol), but I didn't want to wear one-pieces anymore so I found longer tops that were cute, like this.

Haha, I'm scared of having kids... but one day they will understand that parents do things for their benefit and not to torture them whee ..

I don't get why a parent wouldn't let their kid shave. I think I started shaving when I was 11, I just used my moms razor, I never asked permission to shave; wtf? Other girls did it so I figured I should too. It would be pretty embarrassing to be the only girl with Sasquatch legs.

Yeah I never asked permission to shave, I just kinda did it when I was like grade 7-8 though I believe I did ask my mom like UM WHY DOES SHAVING SUCK

and she's like
you're suppose to stroke against the hair not with it and I was like lolol~

Clothes wise me and my mom always clashed, not because it was skimpy just because we don't have the same style.
She'd be like HOW ABOUT THIS and I'd be like no I don't like it and she'd get mad at me

lol moms

My mom let me start shaving when I was 9. sweatdrop I've always HATED body hair and I think I had to ask her a few times before she let me do it. She just showed me how, told me to be careful and stuff, and I was okay. I never cut myself until a few months in. Lol I thought I'd never shave again because OMG I CUT MY LEG, ******** THIS crying But then I got over it.

As for the bikini thing, I think I started wearing them when I was around her age? (She's 9, right? 10? I don't remember) but when you say "string" bikini it makes me think of like, something a little more skimpy than the kinds of bikini I normally imagine. I didn't really realize there were so many kinds of swimwear other than just one or two piece. xD

Awe. Thanks for all the input gals! Let's see, for starts she is ten. Blond leg hair and pretty short compared to how long my got with my mom refusing to let me until I was 13 and me getting picked on in junior high because of it. Well, in the locker room since she didn't let me wear shorts either. (Remember uber fundie christian freaks).

She asked last year. I wasn't comfortable with it. The child gets the tiniest bump and wails like there's no tomorrow so the idea of her slicing her leg shaving...even nicking it...ugh. The tears and crying. I may just kill myself. However, I don't want to be my mom either. So the fact that she's telling me it's really bothering her means I should consider. I did o.k. with Nair, but I will definitely keep an eye out for chemical burns. If she reacts the slightest I may just cave and go for the razor.

String bikini...yes she wants two tiny triangles attached by a string or a band with a teeny tiny bottom. She was mad because the one suit I found with a pattern on it she would like was a tankini (with an open back). The others she tried on showed way too much budding breasticles. Sorry sweets. I can't do that.

I found myself torn. I want her to respect her body, and be modest within reason but I don't want to raise a kid thinking she has to be responsible for all the piggish boys/men out there either. It was quite the quandry. But seriously, you have no armpit hair, not much by way of boobies, and absolutely no hips. How you think you will hold up a string bikini is beyond me. I may change my tune when she's a little older, but she's still young in my eyes and child like so no sexy clothes just yet. I'm not ready for that. Ack!

Regarding the tankini I made her purchase, she stopped stomping when she realized her back was exposed. Seriously? I'm probably screwed the day she realizes there are things called mini skirts. Save us all.

Your daughter is the daughter Mario fears we will have. xD
He's already stated he will have a heart attack the first time she asks if she can wear thong underwear, and will then probably lock her in her room and booby-trap the front lawn so potential suitors gets scared off.
