Alllllllrighty then! It has come to my attention that a lot of us are avid readers. Many of us have several favourite authors and series that we just devour when a new book is released... But Just who's books do you read? And why do you enjoy their writing so much?
Use this thread to talk about your favourite writer's, their writing style, your favourite genre of books... and of course your favourite books/series themselves <3 <3

Okay! Laurell is my absolute favourite author, yet I don't own ANY of her books! *sobs* I have however read all of them, including her stand alone novel whose name is currently escaping me >_O;; Yes, I suck. ANYWHOOO... Her writing is vividly descriptive, but it's not the kind of dry and endless description used by Anne Rice in her novels... Her way of writing paints everything clearly in your mind's eye and sucks you into her world. And OMG! Her world?! Fantasy/Science Fiction meets science and present day. This woman's logic is remarakable, she presents vampires and lycanthropes in a whole new light, while supporting them with fictional, yet believable scientific logic. If you have any intrest in Vampires, Lycanthropes, Fae and Celtic lore.... Her books are totally worth checking out!

The only thing I dislike about her writing, is that sometimes there's more smut than content. Now don't get me wrong... it's VERY, VERY GOOD smut lol. And most of it is quite relevant given the sexual based natures of the races written about... but sometimes... it's just a little over the top. In the Anita books, it's only started happening in the last couple... The Merry series, well... it's a race to get her with child in bid for the throne... sex? Duh.
((More on the other author's series to be added later <3, y'know when it's not 3:30 am lol))

Favorite Authors:
Tom Clancy Robin Hobb
Series:
The Farseer Trilogy The Tawny man The Liveship Traders
All by Robin Hobb

Ok, it's a hard to choose which of the two I prefer, since I enjoy both their styles and genres, so I'll just basically say what I like about both. Tom Clancy I like because he writes about things that could so very possibly happen, does it in a very realistic fashion, the detail he gives to things, his knowledge of how Military things work and such and just the action in them overall makes them very hard to put down. And I just love the genre, so that helps too.
Robin Hobb, now her books are near impossible for me to put down once I start reading them. Spent many a night up for hours just reading her books because they were so damn good. What I really love about her writing style is how she humanizes her characters. Like the main characters in her trilogies are all complete anti-heroes. I love it, because it makes it easier to put myself into that world as the character, which just draws me in more. If you like fantasy books, definitly worth checking out her trilogies, especially the first two.
Dislikes:
I haven't found much I don't like from either authors, but there are some small things. With Tom Clancy, he can take a little while getting into the part of the book that would draw a readers attention, though it's usually on background for the story so it's not something that would put me off reading his books because I know how good they are once they get going.
Robin Hobb, very minor things with her writing. Sometimes she is really too descriptive of inconsequential things, which makes it a little boring at times, but this isn't often and is more than made up for. And the other thing which doesn't really bother me, but is there, is she uses unnecessary words for describing simple things sometimes. The main thing I always noticed was a constant appearance of the word 'chagrin' as opposed to 'embarrasment.
(Yeah, that's about the only two authors I've read anything by lately. And I always sucked at these kind of things.)

My favorite Author just has to be Cate Tiernan.
She wrote the Wicca series (or Sweep, as I have found out it is called in America)
I'm just absorbed in her books, and often find myself reading late into the night (or early morning I should say)
I have all of the series and read them over and over again! If you have not read them, I would advise reading them.
They are kind of about this teenage girl finding out about being a blood witch... and all her trials and tribulations from there.....
They really are good books!!!! xd
