[PRP] What stories are made of (Yavie/Yabetz/Caolan)

Yabetz nodded, setting down his stone. "'Tis rose quartz. Et's guud f'r a variety o' things. Love is what 'tis most popular used for." He smiled behind his mask, leaning over and carefully nuzzling his mate. "Ah cannae think of anythin' else tae make a body happier than tae find a bit o' love in their life!"

He glanced curiously at the stone Yavie had found, sitting next to his quatz. "Wich ye found there, Bumblebee?"

Rose quartz? That sounded so pretty. She looked at Yabetz when he nuzzled her. Her face showed she was considering things but then it brightened and cleared. “So if we give your grumpy friend this he can find love in his life? I think we need to find him a bunch and bunch of Rose Quartz then. Like enough that he could lay ontop of it all and not touch the ground!” She grinned at Yabetz and rolled her rock over. “I don’t know what it is but it’s shiny. I like it.”

Yabetz turned the rock over with his paw, examining the way it sparkled in even the weak sunlight that beamed down in this mountain. "Ah think Ah might knoo whit this is," he said slowly, wracking his brain. "Ah doon't knoo th' proper name f'r et, but Ah think 'tis know as Fool's Gold."

He chuckled softly and rolled the rock back in place. "A bonny stone wit' no real value, but just as braw as th' real an' rare stuff. Ye cannae do as much wit' it though," he added thoughtfully, though he was willing to get there was plenty you could do with the sparklely stone.

“Fool’s gold. Huh that sounds like fun.” She nudged the rock wither her nose. “It might not be very useful but it’s shiny and pretty I think it will help cheer up anyone especially if you do this with it.” Nosing it harded Yavie watched as the stone bounced forward catching the light and gittering like a little star. She moved forward and picked it up again and brought it back to Yabetz. “oo fik ‘eel ike eet?” Setting the stone down she shook her head. It was so hard to talk around stones. She tried again. “You think he’ll like it?”

Yabetz grinned. He'd understood Yavie the first time (it was hard to speak around a mask with his accent, he'd had practice on the matter), but it was sweet how she'd repeated herself for him just in case.

"Ah think he'll enjoy it. How would he not? We'll take et along wit' us." Yabetz eased his mask down off his face and scooped the rocks up, carefully setting them in the dangling object so they didn't over balance it or scratch the inside.

His facial fur was completely black with no markings on it, which just made his red eyes stand out more. It wasn't actually a handsome face, but Yabetz rarely ever took off his mask for sentimental reasons. The only reason he did so now was because stones were harder to carry; you could only have so many in your mouth, you couldn't hold them in your paws and walk comfortably, and trying to balance them in tails or on the back was risky because they could easily fall back to the ground without one ever noticing, and then they'd be lost.

Yabetz looked back up at Yavie. "On tae th' next patch o' rock then, eh?"

Yavie couldn’t think of a reason for the cranky male to dislike the stone she found, but then she couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t go and find a happier place with flowers to start with. She watched as Yabetz slipped off his mask and gathered up the stones they had so far. Her tail wagged when she got to see his face. It was a rare thing and she liked it, she felt like it was just her little secret to get to see his face. No one else not even her papas or brothers knew what Yabetz really looked like. Smiling she nuzzled his cheek softly. “Ok.” Her voice was surprisingly quite and obedient for her. Backing up she perked up again to her usual level of spunk and cheer. “Ok Yabetz. You lead on and I’ll follow.” She bounced up a bit trying to clear her head. This wasn’t the time for cuddling with Yabetz this was time to find rock to cheer up his friend. She couldn’t just let that grumpy fox stay that way. It wouldn’t be right and she doubted Yabetz could either.

“Sounds like a good plan tae me,” Yabetz said cheerfully, always happy whenever he got snuggles from his mate; it was one of the main reasons he took his mask off these days, though he was careful not to let that slip since it was more fun when the snuggles were surprises.

They’d both been walking slowly before so they could look at the various rocks on the ground, and the walk back wasn’t hurried either. Yabetz didn’t want to tip the rocks down on the ground and possibly break them!
A thought occurred to Yabetz as they got closer to the spot where they’d last left Caolan. “Ye knoo we didnae see what was inside those hollow rock we found,” he said in a speculative voice, glancing down at the rocks in his mask. “We donae need them now that we got these, but Ah’ll admit tae bein’ a little curious.” He looked over at Yavie. “What do ye think, should we crack one oop an’ see what’s inside?”

Her eyes popped as she realized he was right. She hummed giving the rocks in his mask a speculative look. “Well you did say that it would be wrong to waste them. So as long as we kept them or gave them to Mr. Grumpy tailed changeling fox then it should be alright. “ She edged nearer the mask now that she had remembered them she was burning with a curiosity to see what they looked like inside. Maybe they would just be hollow dull rocks, but maybe just maybe they would be pretty like the other rocks they found. Who knows maybe they would have a drawer inside? Yabetz never did tell her what a drawer looked like. Maybe it was as big as a pixie and could live inside the hollow rock. “Wouldn’t that be something?” She giggled at the thought not realizing she had spoken aloud. “Mmm shall we each and break one or do you only want to spit one?” She kind of wanted to see how he split one and try it herself.


(Dwarf omg this muse drives me nuts at times. Dwarves plural, Dwar would not be be the singular version.. *stares at Yavie muse who proceeds to ignore her.)

Yabetz thought about it for a second as he stared measuringly at the two hollow-sounding rocks they’d found and set aside. “Ah think we should just crack oopen yin, “ he finally said, carefully rolling over the two rocks. They were both small, though one was a bit bigger than the other.

“Ah kin do et if ye want, or Ah kin teach ye how tae pan yin open sa that et breaks apart in two pieces. ‘Tis a fair hard bit o’ work, ye got to move slow and careful with et, but ‘tis worth et to get et in fair even pairs. Ah’ll let ye pick out which one we should have a go at.”

In the back of Yabetz’s mind he was hoping that whichever of them did break it up that they got a nice break. Two near even halves of a geode made lovely necklaces, and even had a romantic touch to them since they were two halves of a single whole and all.

Yavie nodded at Yabetz’s wisdom. As much as she wanted to crack one open and see what was inside it would be better to only open up one and see what was inside. Sighing she did something she hardly ever did. She thought logically. It would be best to have Yabetz open one since he had the experience to do so. “mm well why not open up the one you found?” She rolled the rock toward him with interest. “I wanna see you break it open so all the surprise can spill out. Maybe it’s the most beautiful rock in history just waiting for you for let the light on it.” Her tail wagged as she looked at the rock fondly wondering what was inside. If it was really pretty then Yabetz friend wouldn’t be sad to get it, but if it was really really pretty maybe Yabetz would keep it for Yavie to look at from time to time.

Yabetz nodded seriously. “Aye, might be. Rocks ‘ave their own brand o’ magic, ye never knoo.” He cast his eyes around, looking for a rock to fit his purpose. He didn’t have to look far, this place was full of rocks. Soon he had a small pile of pointed rocks, several round, blunt ones, and one bigger rock that he’d had to roll over.

It was a long and grueling process, trying to work at the small faults in the geode and elongate them. Paws just weren’t made for this kind of work! It really would have been easier to just toss the geode off a cliff and break it that way, or smash it with a bigger rock, but those means were likely to smash it into multiple pieces instead of just two.

Finally, finally, after what felt like hours but was probably only one, Yabetz picked up the small, fault-riddled rock in his mouth, stood high over the bigger rock, and dropped it. Upon hitting the rock it split neatly into two pieces, perhaps not even ones but both were beautiful.

Completely believing in Yabetz, Yavie watched amazed as he took the time to break the rock just so. She held her breath when the rock cracked and split in two. She inched closer to him and gasped. They were beautiful inside. She had never broken open a rock before so seeing one broken like this was incredible to her.

“So pretty. Yabetz I think if a fairy saw this they would want to pick it up and take it away with them. I know I would want to.” She gently picked up the pieces and set them in Yabetz’s mask fondly. She really wanted to keep them, but she and Yabetz had gone out getting rocks for that sad fox, so just keeping them might not be the right thing to do.

She picked up his mask and held onto it giving Yabetz a curious glance. Where they ready to keep heading back to his friend or did Yabetz have something else he wanted to do first?

Yabetz considered the pieces carefully were they sat in his mask, glittering and throwing out pale blue light. Mixed with that was a pale gold that came off the shiny bit of pyrite already in the mask. It was a rather nice effect. He wasn’t even sure exactly what the stone inside the geode was, though he was sure he could find out. Next to the very sparkly offerings, the rose quartz seemed to hold the light that hit it rather than throw it off, which gave it a subdued and gentle glow.

“Ah think we should narrow et down tae a set o’ two,” he said thoughtfully. “Et looks like we collected love tokens.” He walked over and slightly nudged the geode pieces. “These seem tae represent two halves of a whole.” Then he carefully nudged the rose quartz and pyrite together. “These seem tae be like opposites, but in a complimenting sense.” He looked up at Yavie, smiling. “Ah think they would make great necklaces if they could be strung around.”

Yavie set down Yabetz’s mask and looked at what he did. On one half of the mask were the geodes and the other held the two rocks that they had found separately. She was drawn to the idea of the opposites. It was so much like her and Yabetz. “I like the rose quartz and the pyrite. It’s like you and me Yabetz.” She rolled the rose quartz around. “This is you all warm and with lots of uses and knowledge.” She nudged the pyrite. “This is me. I’m not as useful but I’m still fun and can surprise you.”

Grinning she looked up at him. “So should we keep these ones or should we leave them with your friend so that he remembers us?” She wouldn’t mind sharing a love token with Yabetz but that wasn’t why they were here. They were going to be bringing the rocks back to a depressed fox and Yavie wasn’t certain which ones they should give to him and which ones they should keep so that they wouldn’t waste their search.

Yabetz took a moment to seriously think the idea through. Now he wasn’t as clueless as he always seemed. He knew Caolan wasn’t that fond of him, probably disliked him, but he thought the male could use a friend to help lighten up his mood with a bit of silliness from time to time. If nothing else there was the thought that it was always nice to know you had a friend.

But, with all this in mind, Yabetz was fairly certain that if they gave Caolan anything that was supposed to be something that reminded the male of the energetic couple, he’d probably be less than thrilled. And anyway, if the point was to give him a set that he could use for a romantic token then it would be less than effective to give him the set that would remind him most of friends instead of romance.

“Ah think we should keep these two,” Yabetz said with a nod, tapping the rose quartz and pyrite. “’Tis a fair piece for a friendship gift, but Ah’m thinkin’ he might appreciate something he could use tae give to a special someone, and the geode would do a bonny job of it.”
