Heard about some epic storm that might cover 1/3 of the US. Is that the one hitting you guys??? :O
Meanwhile there's a category 5 cyclone hitting poor old Queensland. The state can't cop a break.
everything is shut down here in the Northeast pretty much, all the schools, most industries and such, although the major roads are open.
Chicago airport is completely closed.
the Super Bowl is miserable in Dallas because of freezing rain and wind; they have rolling blackouts on their power grid which is interfering with the all important media coverage (not to mention people trying to heat their homes) , and outdoor broadcasts with crowds have been moved into studios with no crowds.
i bought two weeks worth of food yesterday so I am in a quilt looking at the snow and feeling snug and smug.
I'm glad you're safe and sound!
heart I forget that blackouts will have more of an effect on you guys because of the cold. I think there's been a lot of panic buying in QLD so it's good that you were able to stock up.
Food prices are going to sky rocket over here. They were saying the floods hit pumpkin, tomato, capsicum, celery, avocado, lettuce, zucchini, broccoli and potato. Now with the cyclone, 75 - 90% of Australia's banana plantations are gone and sugarcane was hit really bad too. Cyclone Larry (2006) caused banana prices to rise from about $3/kg to $18/kg. It was seriously all we talked about that year.
rofl You had to pay a surcharge on anything with banana in it (smoothies, etc).
This time around, they reckon food prices might be affected for up to 3 years. I feel really bad for the farmers, because if Australia starts importing more fruit and veges, they'll find it harder to get back into the market, if they can even re-establish their farms in the first place.
