Well, now that I've just finished something I'm remotely proud of, I guess I should start talking a bit about what I do.

I am not in school for art (though I have taken some classes), but I do a lot of drawing and painting in my free time. I post all of my artwork at www.ZOMGwingly.DeviantArt.com, as well as constructive critiques of the works of others. I do most of my work in colored pencil or watercolor, though I do sometimes play around with other media. I cannot do digital art for my life, though, so most if not all of the art you'll see from me is traditionally drawn. My favorite subjects involve colorful scenes, flowers and fairies, and things from games that inspire me.

Here are some samples of work from my dA:

Macaw on Black

Colors of Ayuthay

Macaws in Flight

Tiny Handmade Parasol

Helping Hand

Nasturtiums

And many more on the site proper. I've got some DQ stuff that is unscanned, but I'm working on a piece as we speak for the DQ club collaboration contest.

I also do some singing in community concert choruses, but I don't have any recordings of that just yet.

So, yeah. Enjoy.

Oh my God Roto, you are spectacular! What I really liked about your art the most is the colours, they were, well, colourful, they really brought out the beauty! The scenery (especially in the Golden Sun work) was beautiful, I don't know the technical term for it, but the architecture in that work was simply magnificent. I loved the liberal takes you do in that drawing in the way that it's not just a boring building, it has character to it. Keep putting more up, I'm sort of intimidated to put mine up now ( -__- ) but once I learn how work my scanner, I'll be sure to put mine up.

Thank you so, so much! I can be really insecure about my art at times, so I always love to hear detailed thoughts. 4laugh

The architecture in Colors of Ayuthay was the whole reason I drew the picture, so it had damn well better be good! I always work the best when inspired by something, and this vacation has been a landslide of inspiration. While Golden Sun: Dark Dawn had it's flaws for sure, it delivered on the series' creative worlds and cultures better then ever before. So I had to draw some art of it. Colors of Ayuthay was the second of these pieces (the first is on my site, but it was a warm-up piece to practice a new set of watercolors, and I'm not as fond of it), and by far the one I wanted to do the most. I loved Ayuthay so, so much. Great design. I could only try and capture a fragment of the magic I felt there. I'll probably even revisit the idea at some point.

I get so many compliments on my colors, and I really love coloring things the most. I absolutely swear by my pencil set, and watercoloring helps me unwind in times of extreme stress (I got a lot of watercoloring done last semester, let me tell ya).

Go ahead and post your stuff! I've got plenty of crapola on my site too, some of it from as much as 6 years ago. It's all in learning, and I always love to see what other people do, regardless of skill level.

I'll post some of my DQ-related miscellanea here as an extra treat once that really gross burning smell that is pervading my hose goes away and I'm feeling less nauseous.

New arts! I got to upload some stuff while I was at home, and I'm still high on Golden Sun inspiration, so here we go.

Criticize all you want. Just don't harsh my buzz.

I have some actual Dragon Quest compositions in mind, believe it or not. Lessee if any of them happen before I go home for Passover in two weeks.

Amazing work as always, Tiki. 3nodding

I would love to put my own stuff up, but I'm lacking in a scanner. I've also wanted to try my hand at inking and CG with something like Photoshop or GIMP.

So if I ever get lucky and find a scanner, I'll show the scanned stuff and then after a while, I'll show off some CG.

On a side note, I can kinda sorta sprite and animate. sweatdrop

Ooh, I didn't thank you for the comment! I'll do so now. Thank you, Roy. And more art is always welcome here. I wish I had agreeable scanners and digital skills.

I've also finally got some DQ art on DA!

Pioneers

I drew it in an afternoon to commemorate DQ's 25th anniversary. It isn't my best work, but it's acceptable, I'll say. I'm just happy to get some DQ tributes on paper finally, since I'm really shy when it comes to drawing Toriyama characters. They never look right in my style, since his is so iconic and I'm a fan.

Let's see what else I've uploaded since last posting here.

Waka Appears (Watercolor, Okami fanart)

Little Luminescence (Colored Pencil, Original art)

And most recently, Gift of Shade and Water (Colored Pencil, Golden Sun fanart).
I'm frustrated as hell with this one, so be aware. Doing fanart of something you find awe-inspiring is tough because from the very beginning it can't be as good, and if something goes wrong, that's just worse. And a lot of stuff went wrong here.

AAAAAAAAASDFASVTHKGJ:, Descendant of Erdrick artwork. heart

As we all know, I am a big sucker for Dragon Warrior games, and artwork of any makes me a very happy person. As usual, the shading is legendary, and although I am personally not familiar with Okami, I couldn't help but admire the beauty of the drawings.

Hah, I never responded to this either. Thank you so much, Hassan! And I'm glad you like the artwork, especially since I'm still a bit squeamish about messing with the style of DQ. I have a mega case of art block right now, which really sucks because I was so good at producing work last year! At least, for me. In my artblock I had plenty of ideas for Dragon Quest artwork. But nothing was able to get on paper, except for some doodles of Dragon Quest characters in my sketchbook. Those are... okay, I guess. I'm taking other measures to try and get out of my artblock, like finally playing a game that I have heard tremendous praise for, but never got around to playing it myself (If it does inspire me at all, you'll see a lot more watercolor art in here wink ). Even if it doesn't, sometimes a good game or story helps get my blood pumping and art flowing. In addition, art helps me de-stress, and a good project helps me focus on things and get rid of stress when I work on it. So a new project would be really nice.
And Bastion STILL refuses to co-operate!

I guess I'll post more art from my 2011 gallery. Not all of it, but I'll post a fair bit.

Early Morning (Colored Pencil, Floral)

Bug Nomads (Colored Pencil, Outliner Pens, Orignal Art)

I Found your Salamander (Colored Pencil, Outliner Pens, Golden Sun Fanart).
I Found your Salamander was actually for a contest last summer in the Golden Sun club. I got second place... Out of two, but still, it was very close (I lost by one vote!) and I still got a prize out of it! biggrin

Had me at HELLO (Colored Pencils, Fan Art for a friend's comic series)

Of Yellow and Blue Make (Colored Pencils, outliner pens, Original art).

Man that scan sucks.

At the End of the Day (Watercolors, Colored Pencils, Outliner Pens, Original Art)

Though I love how this one came out. I'll surely be doing more with Mixed Media in the future.

The Twilight of his Rule (Colored Pencils, Fire Emblem fanart)
The first of my two Secret Santa pieces for 2011. Those who frequent the FEF Blast might know that I'm... Not exactly a fan of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In fact, I think it's a game with fun gameplay, but also a rock stupid story that does no justice to those before it (Especially Path of Radiance). It's not a bad game. It just... really frustrates me. I don't really care for it. But my recipient was a big fan of Radiant Dawn, and she wanted me to draw Pelleas, and I got a really cool composition idea, so I did. It might not be all I imagined it would be, but I am really proud of the composition and coloring here, despite some posture errors and other errors that came from me working on this thing sporadically over Finals week and then some.

Though that does not diminish my love for Radiant Dawn part 2. Too many Paladins? YOUR MOM is too many paladins!

Jenna's Defence (Colored Pencils, Outliner Pens, Golden Sun Fanart)
This is the second of my Secret Santa pictures of 2011. I like Golden Sun: The Lost Age a lot more than Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, but When it comes to Golden Sun, the locations and atmospheres that the games have are what gets me geeking out and producing art a lot more than the characters on their own, as is probably really evident from the stuff I've posted here in the past. But my recipient didn't specify anything like that (and there was a category in the letters for favorite locations. You bet I filled that thing up!), so I was kinda stuck with nothing, even though Jenna is one of the better characters on her own merits. I still think this one came out decently, though. And while this was uploaded in 2012, I started it in 2011.

Here's hoping I get my game back in 2012!

I did some more Dragon Quest fanart, but I finished it right before I left for college and I scanned it very quickly. Unfortunately, I'm not happy with the quality of the scan, so I won't be posting it on dA until I can get home sometime in the future and scan it again. I did put the scan up on photobucket since some folks were curious, so I'll post it here, even though the scan is shiitte. You get to see it before dA does! Woo!
Click here for untitled as of yet DQIII fanart
adfadf the scan is so ugly, the light reflected off of the pencil, the lines are blurry, a lot of the colors and lines that separate Roto from the background are obscured, arrrgh...

I was inspired by listening to two versions of Unknown World. The version in the first DQ on the NES, and the one in the GBC remake of DQIII, since I replayed it this summer (along with IV). I really like how the III version has a slower tempo, and it feels older and darker, to go along with the older and darker Alefgard.

There is some newer stuff on my dA, but it's not my best (though I am fond of the shells, they didn't pick up well and I might scan them again down the line).
I did a lot of watercoloring, but I didn't feel that a lot of it was good enough to scan, though I am proud of a fair amount of them and I think I made a lot of progress.

I'm going to try and keep a steady stream of art flowing over the rest of the year. Even if not all of the art is going to be the best or be more than sketches or experimentation, I want to keep the flow going so that I am less likely to go back into art block. And I also like the idea of putting them all into a collage when the sketchbook is full. I've always wanted to do that.
