Angus's Banishing Ritual

Its Purpose

The purpose of a banishing ritual is to prepare the practitioner for spellwork. Or it can be used to banish a room of negative vibrations, banish a malicious entity, banish your mother in law and basically anything that comes to mind. I use it primarily to spiritually clean my house and prepare a room for ritual. I will rarely use it if I am outside, as I do not feel that it needs to be done in addition to my compass rite.

The Ritual Proper
0. Begin with the Crossing
1. Intonation of the Vowels IEAOU and the activation of the energetic spheres
2. Tracing of the first pentagram. Intone UOAEI
3. Moving to the east. Intone HEKAS
4. Tracing of the second pentagram. Intone UOAEI
5. Moving to the south. Intone HEKAS
6. Tracing of the third pentagram. Intone UOAEI
7. Moving to the west. Intone ESTE
8. Tracing of the final pentagram. Intone UOAEI
9. Moving to the north. Intone BEBELOI
10. Cover face with hands and intone IAM.
11. "BEGONE!"

The Ritual Explained
We shall go in the steps. It should be noted that one begins facing north, but that is personal preference. I also do my figures with my right hand, but do the crossing with my left.
0. The Crossing.
The crossing is done in almost every banishing ritual I have come across. In the Lesser Banishing Ritual the Kabbalistic cross is used. Mine is a bit different, but essentially is connecting the self to all the points of the universe. Centering. To do it one draws down the light of Heaven to their brow and says "In the name of Death," drawing that down to the genitalia and see the light pierce down into the Land "And life,". Draw the light over to the left shoulder and say "The Shadow" and then over to the right shoulder "and the Light." Cross the arms in front of you as through crossed bones and say "The holiest of the wane and the true. Amen."

1. The intonation of the vowels is something that I will post a separate thread on. What one is doing is sounding IAO, which is an acronym used in some magical traditions. However all the vowels are being sounded. The effect should create a series of fifths and overtones if one does it correctly. This cleanses the spirit and helps focus the subtle shift in consciousness. The power points that are being activated that you should focus on as you do this are I (head), E (throat), A (heart), O (stomach), and U (the root, or genitals).

2. Before you trace a banishing pentagram. With each stroke intone a different vowel in the order given (UOAEI). Don't rush it though. When finished stab the pentagram in the center with whatever tool you are doing and see it grow forth and destroy anything that is contrary to your working. If you are banishing something specific see it shooting into that something and burning it. Or if you are not so violent see the pentagram pushing that negative idea away from you.

3. Move your circle to the east, or to the right of you. The reason that I move with the sun is that it creates sun energy, which has exorcising qualities naturally. As you move intone the word HEKAS. The full sentence is "Hekas, Hekas Este Bebeloi". Which essentially translates to "Afar, afar all ye profane." It should be noted that you should focus on the vowels, as that is what vibrates not the consonants.

4-9. This is all roughly what we just went over. Just remember that your vowel vibrations are shaking lose the negative energy and your pentagrams are banishing it. See this clearly in your mind, it is vastly important.

10. These final steps are about banishing what negative influences are over you. It is about remembering WHO you are. You are vibrating "I am" which is vastly powerful. If anything vibrating "I am" or IAM and visualizing blue or white flames cascading around you would be an excellent banishing ritual. Indeed that is how this one got started! Cover your face and begin to sway. This helps deepen the subtle consciousness shift. Vibrate IAM and focus on gathering your pentagrams close to you and see them burn a white hot.

11. "BEGONE!" this final, very commanding word should explode out everything that is not helpful in your working. I have never consciously said this word. By that I mean that I have never said "okay now BEGONE!" It has just happened. In my mind I see the flames roaring outwards in a great wave, and I am the center of all with a flaming sphere above me keeping out all that is profane. As I write in my grimoire laugh at yourself and try to catch the snowflakes of reality on your tongue.

A note on Intoning

This is how I learned to intone. It is a difficult thing to master, but one can get the gist of it quickly. All I can say is practice, practice, practice! Start with the vowels UOAEI.

Ready? Here we go. What I want you to do is start with U as in ooo. Make your mouth nice and round and it helps if you put your finger in your mouth to get what I trying to describe. Now place it high and sing this out. Do not use vibrato if you can help it. What you are trying to find is a note that creates a fifth above it and a fifth below it as well. Listen carefully and don't sing too loudly. Play with your tongue, play with how nasal you get (I find this helps for me) play with where you are placing the vowel.

Now, transition the U carefully into O. This should be OH. Do the same thing and if you need to take another breath by all means do so. Raise your eyebrows, if you need to go higher. I have found that if I close my eyes I can hear the fifths better.

Now transition into A. This is not a drawn out AAAEEEEE it should be Awe. Make it nice and tall. Here is where you really need to start playing with your tongue. Still strive for that one note that vibrates the fifths.

Now what my teacher told me to do was make a wuh sound. OUA. Just try that a couple times slowly. Try not to transition too quickly, we want to hear all those vowels and the overtones that they create. And when you are doing A try not to go quickly into E, which is difficult.

The E should sound like Eh or AEEE. Transition slowly, the further you go in the vowels the harder it is going to be to keep on the vowel in question. The transition into I. This should be a drawn out EEEEEE sound. Now the amazing thing about this EEE is that you can start to hear the U again and you can repeat this for minutes on end. Just remember to breath. If you can circular breath (I can not, I will have to learn though) then power to you.

Just remember to hear the fifths and practice every day. If you listen carefully it will sound as if you are going up in the pitch as you go through the vowels. This is an illusion. You should still be able to hear the main pitch that you started with if you listen carefully.

Intoning is used by a lot of ceremonial magicians when intoning the names of gods or entities or angels. This is what is used when monks chant their mantras, save for the fact that they do it a bit lower than what I am suggesting here. You can do it lower as well, but that takes a lot of time. One can hear the fifths a lot easier when one is intoning starting at a higher pitch. I am not sure why this is, that is what my teacher taught me. You can certainly practice lower if you want, but know that this can ruin your vocal cords if you are not careful.
