I have a hard time with temptations. From dealing with them to giving in to them, I can't exactly grasp the concept of it. Matthew 6:13 says, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." Without the context, I assumed this to say that God brings temptation unto us. With context, I'm sure that Satan is the one who puts these ideas into new ones. My World Views teacher explained to me: Satan doesn't come up with new ideas. All ideas have been invented by our creator, God. Satan transforms these ideas into perverse ones. For example, sex. Sex/love making is a beautiful thing God gave to us. Satan transformed this beautiful thing and gave us the idea of "having sex with multiple people," "sex before marriage," etc. This had a huge effect on me and now this is a teacher I will always remember.
1 Timothy 6:8-10 says, "But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."
I do have problems with money, greed, jealousy, etc. But I have a deeper problem than this [which I won't be getting into.] I'm plunging into ruin and destruction and this scares me.
I need help with temptation. I need every Bible verse regarding it to strengthen my beliefs. I need help in so many ways and I think advice from you can help. I have so many questions yet so little answers. Help/Advice?
