I recently had a sudden wave of flashbacks and realized that the more you were aroung heavy machinery as a kid growing up, they more likely you are to like industrial music. I was always around machines because my dad is a welder.

My dad has always been an operator of heavy machines, a truck driver, and worked with wood. My mom has always worked as a janitor in my district, she operated heavy machines, I love industrial. You could be right.

It wasn't that way for me. Although my parents were scifi nerds. Although I don't know if that really matters.

I think it was that way for my boyfriend though.

all i can say is that I was only around machinery everyonce in a moderate amount.

my dad always did woodworking and worked on his car but beyond that i wasnt around machinery that much.

Personally I wasn't ever around anything much mechanical... but I've been playing an unhealthy amount of video games since I was about 4(with the NES).

I'm kind of surprized that I got into this guild with the application I submitted. It was no where near the best I can do, I was short on time and wanted to get it through quickly... but I'm not complaining. So anyways... this is my first post on this fabulous guild. =)

That's not what it was for me, personally. I ADORE Industrial Music, but my mom works for marketing and I've no clue what my dad does, considering I only see him every other week-end. But I don't recall any machinery.

You might be right? My dad operates heavy machinery (Dump Trucks, Backhoes, etc.), and I'm a fan. Never really thought about it that way.

Well I did grow up around industrial music, or at least industrial sounding music. I grew up with my mom listening to Kraftwerk, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Rob Zombie, Etc. So that might be a reason.?

If you guys are living in modernized and industrialized countries, pretty much every aspect of your life is mechanized. Electronics, mechanical devices, etc etc. Maybe you had an affinity towards them more? That might be more appropriate. Because the only way you'd have a chance of not being around machinery is living in a country that is 3rd world. Or be a hippie/hermit for your whole life.

I hate heavy machinery, so your theory dosen't apply to me... I live in the countryside... sheeps everywhere when the snow is gone, mountains, rivers, walleys... yeah. xp

I just found it to be a logical progression from NIN and Zombie, honestly. As to my love for those two? Entirely inexplicable. I was raised on computers, so maybe that's it...

Well, my parents are in the LawnCare business, so not really. If you'd like, here is a complete history of my evolution of musical taste.

FIRST CD - The Offspring (Not something to be ashamed of, like most peoples)
Listened to some Ska and punk
Slipknot, Mushroomhead (Briefly)
Slayer (Still like 'em)
More metal, a lot of Death and Thrash
Some Dimmu
Velvet Acid Christ... leading into
Funker Vogt leading to
Das Ich, Wumpscut, Suicide Commando, Had a giflfriend who liked Skinny Puppy.
Front Line Assembly.
