I think that it is possible that it will die out, but I doubt it. It's such a large part of the culture in Japan as well as in various other countries. If you think about anime, it's actually just short for animation. Anime as the Japanese know it is simply animated shows. Cartoons have been around for decades and I don't think they're going anywhere. I highly doubt that the desire to watch animated shows will die out. It is possible that anime as we know it (the Japanese style cartoon) will lose popularity and the variety will shrink. It is also possible that adults will lose interest in cartoons (such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.) and cartoons will return to being something for children.

@ Mugoi
I totally agree with what you are saying. I think Anime is changing yes, but it isn't going to be going anywhere - in fact it is getting more fans than before! I hope we are right. 3nodding

I'm totally here for the food.... But also the posting!
I'm not so sure. I mean, animation has been around for such a long time... Maybe what they meant to convey is that the type of anime as we know it is going to change. Before, animation was something that was strictly for adults. Then, because children were inevitably born (joke) they had to hide their jokes so it could be child-appropriate. Then it started turning towards kids. Maybe what these people mean is that their genre or type of animation will be changing so much that it will seem like it is extinct.
I shamefully admit not reading the article, and just basing my opinion off of what Yama has told me thus far IRL.

If anime dies out I will eat my steel-capped boots. But I don't think I will be eating any boots any time soon.

Everything will have drastically changed in a few decades so maybe but just like PS1s and Video players, there will be few Anime's being shown on TV but it will always be there ^-^ That is what I think.
