Quote:
19-Aug-2010 - Dungeoneering – The Occult Floors

As the depths of Daemonheim reach ever closer to the strange power at their end, its magic has begun to affect the inhabitants who stalk its halls. Those humans abandoned on the floors above are the lucky ones, as the ones driven further down by their master have...changed, and have been joined by the magically gifted and the undead.

Members who venture through the twelve occult floors will have to face these tainted foes, mostly in the form of six new boss monsters. One boss that requires some skill to defeat is the Grave Creeper, who hides in a series of tombs – if you don’t quickly bless the graves he taints, the room can become engulfed in flame...and you with it. Then, as mentioned in this month’s Behind the Scenes, there’s Yk’Lagor the Thunderous, so named because he’s a talkative guy (voice acting supplied by the developers). Heed his warnings or be the focus of a melee pummelling, but don’t stray too far away else his magic attack can quickly take out your whole group!

Before you get to face these new bosses, you’ll likely come across one of nine new challenge rooms. These are not all exclusive to the occult floors and will tax both members and free-players alike. Withstand the pain of deadly herbs (slaughtercress, papreaper and parslay came from player suggestions in the Aggressive Herbs – Name Ideas! forum thread), build bridges over bottomless pits, and perform last rites on a tormented spirit.

Traversing through the occult floors will allow you to increase your maximum prestige up to 47, with which you should be earning anywhere up to about 40% more XP than if your maximum prestige were 35 (depending upon your dungeon setup and how well you do). In turn, you’ll earn more Dungeoneering tokens – just the thing for buying some of the five new rewards. Free players can learn a technique to become more efficient at smithing and charge special boxes with spells to cast. Members can enjoy such delights as herbicide (an automatic herb burner) and Rigour, a new prayer for rangers, among other things.

In other news...

As previously mentioned by Mod Trick, we've now implemented the feature to reset your Dungeoneering class rings. This is a one-time only option, so choose wisely this time.

We've added a useful new item to the Dungeoneering smuggler’s shop. The toolkit contains a selection of the more useful items used in most dungeons which should help speed up the start of your dungeons.

When progressing through dungeons, if you've purposefully selected a lower complexity, the complexity level will no longer increase as you progress through the floors.

Barnabas in Varrock Museum has noticed the popularity of the strange rocks and can now help you further by offering a bag to store them in. On a related note, the chance of getting a rock from Construction activities has been increased slightly.

The music interface now has a search feature so you can easily find the tracks you're after, which should be useful when you're creating a playlist or simply looking for those tracks you've just unlocked.

Would join you, but you know, Jagex don't like my kind. The least they could have done was remove the XP cap for 90+ combat levels. Which was only introduced because members were taking advantage of the fact that f2p dung was easier which meant faster XP. Now that they have higher prestige in p2p, what's the point of having the deterant to members that only really negatively affected high lvl f2pers?

Oh, and they nerfed the sellback value of runes, so GF to having a quick start up with money available. The tool box is useless too.

The only good things are the smithing scroll, and maybe the Blast Box.

Gotta find out if it's actually better to smith only 3 bar items instead of 5 bar items. For example, you make a 3 bar item, you have a chance to save 1 bar. But if you make a 5 bar item, can you potentially save 3 bars? Or just 1 total? If it's only 1, then making 3 bar items only would take the most advantage from this.

For the Blast Box. From the sounds of it, you can only cast spells using runes from that box that you assigned you it. So either Bolt or Blast. So, that tells me that if you have fires, airs and deaths in the box, and laws outside of the box, you wouldn't be able to cast Varrock tele. You'd need seperate fires and airs that aren't in the box, right? However, in addition to that, surely you can uncharged the box, taking those runes out. If that's the case, it could help in RCing maybe. Have a law staff, store the fires and airs in the box, make earths, unstore the airs and fires, tele to Varrock, store them again as you head to bank. It would save 1 invent spot.

That's only if you can unstore the runes. Surely you can unstore the runes... >.>

Yeah, I was wondering that too Air. I mean for all the people who buy 99 Smithing via Addy Pl8s... I can imagine they're going to be saving a lot of bars if it's more bars back with a 5 bar item, then just a 3 or 4 bar item. sweatdrop

Depending on whether or not you can save more than 1 bar, it could potentially cause making 2H, skirts or legs better than making plates.

Per bar the alchy price for those three are 1280 while plates are 1996.8.

However, for rune, plates were always lame to alchy cause their alch per bar is 7800. Meanwhile, the other 3 give you 12800. There are several other rune items that give more than plates do. Hell, short swords are pretty close to 2H, skirts and legs. They give 12480.

Which n00b item requires 4 bars? xp

I agree about them screwing over people if they did something to the air runes. Of course, it doesn't help that I can't find anyone that would be willing to do a couple dungeon runs outside of the guild.

So has anyone gotten a Blastbox yet? If so, details.

I'm seeing talks that it's usable when you have it on the shield slot, has I think 5 Mage attack and defence, and only stores airs along with chaos and/or deaths. Not sure if it can take both at the same time, although the KB makes it sound like you switch the charge for which type you use.

Then again, the KB makes it sound like you can store any rune that is needed for these spells. So what, no fires?

I'm still assuming it can take unlimited amount of runes. The one thing I really want to know is if you can uncharge it to get the runes back. Because although it won't be as great for that teleing thing for RC I was talking about before. If you can store then unstore airs in it, you could save one spot still.

I've yet to hear anything about the box. So far the only new item I have is the Smithing Scroll thingy. I tested it out on a full invontory of iron bars and I made Iron Plates, and it only saved me 1 bar, so I'm guessing the amount of bars in the item doesn't really matter much! I was kinda disappointed, seeing as I spent like 20k on the scroll. emo

I think I'll just stick with the items I was going to get anyways..

Chaotic Rapier
Chaotic Longsword

Arcane Stream Necklace
Gem Bag
Herbicide (the only new one)
