wweeelllll...hm. once, we had this band review where there was marching, both concert bands, AND jazz. and they were all way close together. first there was jazz, and one trumpet BARELY made it there cuz it was also SATs that day. then there was hardly any time before concert started, and both of those were back to back. then we had to hurry back to the busses and change for marching (i know a lot of bands normally change on the bus, but we usually go to the locker room), and we had like, no warmup time. (well, the guard did cuz we don't play instruments lol). oh, AND it was windy. and after that, about a quarter of the band had to leave to go to the musical that was happening back at the school (cuz we do "live orchestra" for musicals). the musical started at 7pm. we were about 30-40 minutes away from the school. the musical people were going to have to unload the equipment truck BY THEMSELVES and get set up backstage in what remained of the hour. and then we ran late. so the musical actually started with only about a third of the orchestra, which was really small to begin with.

oh, and did i mention we did all that WITHOUT OUR BAND DIRECTOR??? he was down doing some thing with his old college band so we had the middle school band director that conducts concert way different...

yeah, that was a fun day... mrgreen

My bd would read the judges comments to use. for good comments he would put on his cheesy happy face(in trouth it was kinda scary). And for the not so good ones he would use the sad face(also scary) then we would listen to the tapes

My cg instructor just made us listen to the tapes.

i just wished for us to watch the shows as a group so we could see our mistakes.

The one time my bd ever reviewed us, he did the recording thing and when he played it back, it sounded horrible. Percs drowned everyone out, and they were at the back, plus one of the clarinets kept squeeking. Yeah, we never did that again.... Turned out the thing was onee the fritz sweatdrop That was group test though. Everone except the juniors rocked it. Apparently I'm not the only one who can't work well in group settings, lol.

if you mean competition i have a an interesting story.

Our jazz band competes, state-wide and region-wide (ranked third on the east coast). Two years ago, we booked a cruise on the brand new Oasis of the Seas. It so happened the day we were coming home, was NJ state finals. I talked to my band director, and he said it was okay to miss, but I just couldn't. So I got a first class ticket home (the only seat left on the flight), got to Newark Airport, got into a gown in the car, broke a million traffic rules speeding down to Southern New jersey (normally 2hrs, we did it in 1hr20min), I ran out of the car, on the phone with my BD looking for my jazz band, ran down the hallway (they were waiting to get on stage), grabbed my horn, tuned in a random room (it was somehow in tune????) and walked on stage, with 30 seconds to spare. I swear to god, it was the craziest thing I think I've ever done, and PROOF I am a band nerd.

Only a true band nerd spends $550 dollars on a first class ticket, and breaks every traffic rule in existence, to get to NJ Jazz State-Finals.

Once when we went to a band review the color guard forgot to bring their flags and didn't realize until shortly before the parade started. There was much weeping and rending of garments. Eventually they borrowed some turquoise, silver and black flags from another school, which clashed completely with our navy blue and gold uniforms.

There have been other similar incidents, such as forgetting instruments, parts of instruments, shoes...It's funny that the only stories I remember from band reviews are people forgetting things.

Oh, and sometimes the judges' tape recorders would not be working properly and so when we got the tapes back they would be really fast or slow. No one could keep from laughing when we listened to those.
