Lately I've been coming up with a few avatars that I'd like to make, that I just don't have the gold for. Now, I don't ever really sell any of my things, but I have a fairly large umm... networth. So then I got to thinking - why even keep any items at all?

Sure, most items gain value over time, but if I'm replacing the items I sell for new items I'll be using, I don't see how that should really matter. Especially gold shop items - their prices won't be going up any time soon, so I don't see why I should keep them around.

I like having an inventory I can create an enviro from, but that really limits the avatars I create to only a handful of high priced items.

So Fashun... How do you handle this gold crisis?

Think I should have a big inventory sale?

I'm fairly poor (at least compared to you guys!) so I always sell everything I buy over like 15k after I use it.
I don't know... it might be nice to have something else, yes?

well for me there are a coupple of factors, what type of items you are talking about selling, if you thing you will ever want to buy them back, and what you are trying to buy so if you answer those maybe i can give you an answer

All my items.

Including some high priced ones: Oisin's Blessing, Gaia-Sama, Kanoko's Dark Reflection EIs: Gogh Reed, Reve Rouille, Hidden Ace, Picolitrosso's Urn, etc. Gold shop items: Milady sets, socks/stockings/shoes. Rarities and commons alike. Everything.

I'd be constantly buying and selling for new avatars. Cool thing about this is - I'd be able to afford ridiculously priced items in my avatars. (Like the Pale Marionette) Of course, once I got tired of that avatar - I'd sell it, and go about buying items for a new one.

Avatars I've made that I can't quite afford:

Though... I'm starting to think that maybe it's more work than it's worth.

now, i have no problem with you selling commons, but rares.. if you think you are going to want the back, i dont advise selling them because of inflation... there is just no way they WONT inflate

Sell everything, buy your wants, and use the rest to hoard. When you're tired of that avi, sell it all, ???, profit!

I never sell anything D; I'm convinced I'd want it back and not be able to get it ; w;

If I were you, I wouldn't sell them. It's a too big of a risk to take. I may want/need it back when I make another avi.

Although you can probably sell useless CI's/MC's and commons. EI's have more poses so they're very important... especially the Gogh.

Well let's talk about this hypothetically~
Bottle sells her P. Urn in order to buy the Pale Marionette. Being a popular item, the PM has a really high demand = high price. That price will keep rising until a possibility of re-release.
If she uses the PM for about a week or two, the price of the Pale Marionette will rise. And if she resells the commons at at least 75% of store price, there will be enough profit to reassurance that she can afford the next avatar. She can rebuy the P. Urn if she was going to use it again.
The price of expensive or rare RIG items inflate way faster than the price of EI's.

It's a lot of work and time though, soooo yeah. I think the choice also depends on how often you like to change, if you always have to have a stunning avi, what colors, how fast you can make gold, etc O:

Bottle; I always sell and buy new items, so yes, but I have regretted it, Like past items I have had are now worth 5mil each, sold those items for around 300k-1mil.

So I wouldnt have a good answer xD

That's what I was thinking, Tsu. I mean, there's a little risk involved.

Now am I willing to spend the time... hmm...

(I shouldn't gave you folk that third option. xD )

Yeahhhh... I was thinking along the lines of Skyscraper Opera's example, but not so well phrased and thought out. It works out when you trade up to an item that's highly inflatable like the Pale Marionette. It doesn't work if you trade down for the next outfit... you know, if you trade for something that doesn't inflate quickly. Or worse, if you trade for an RIG item that's currently deflating with each new RIG release.

If you make sure to do it right, that sort of plan sounds like fun.
Over the years, I've heard more stories where it didn't work out. People from 03 would just keep trading their items for the new MCs. Before you know it, they're an 03 account that's owned one of everything at some point. All they'd have to show for it at the time were a handful of the current year's MCs.
We do live in a different market now though. It's not always profitable to hold onto old items. When the market was MC-based, items usually got more expensive as time passed. Hoarding old items was good. Now? Items can inflate or deflate all they want with age. And there are definitely some newer items out there than inflate and make more profit faster than a lot of the old items.
In other words, as long as you plan your outfits around items that are in high demand, you should be fine. And, heck, make more gold than if you hoarded your old items because, like Tsu's example, you could actually make more gold in the long run by buying the right items. > <

I'm too scared to try that sort of thing though. I'm also a pack rat and can't part with anything. So as much as I'd love to have new items to play with all the time, I'll just stick to my slow hoarding.
