I....have no idea. But...I was trying to reuse an extra garbage can in my garage as a recycling bin, (with no lid) I even painted a white recycle symbol on the side. 9-9 I think my town forgot to give us a can, they use to just give it to us or easy pick up.
Anyway, Twice, my town refused to take it. Then I taped a note to the can when it was filled with bottles saying, "I'm using this extra can as my recycling can. Please take the bottles. Thank you."
They finally took it. biggrin
They're so picky!
Here's another question: >Why aren't the plastic caps on plastic water bottles the same kind of plastic? >...Why do we crush glass beer bottles, when they're going to be melted down to make more beer bottles?

You can get free stickers to turn anything into a recycling bin though. That way your bin is made of recycled materials. They're currently out of stock. sad But they say to check back.

Can't we just use that as a template to make our own stickers then?

Insanity Logic Can't we just use that as a template to make our own stickers then? I wouldn't see why not. I'm sure they'd rather save a sticker if possible, since those are litter too.

I have a small recycling bin I rescued from my family's personal landfill (seriously, there's a hole on our property that certain relatives of mine think is for putting their trash in), and if I recall it's actually made from recycled material.

ii l i k e h u g s ii Why aren't recycling bins made out of recycled material? I've been trying to figure it out! Hmm... It's kind of odd, isn't it? I have thought about other products in general. I sometimes wonder if what we recycle is even put to use. Most school supplies I see at the store doesn't use any recycled material. sad Hugel Here's another question: >Why aren't the plastic caps on plastic water bottles the same kind of plastic? >...Why do we crush glass beer bottles, when they're going to be melted down to make more beer bottles? I've been wondering about that too.
I found this article on plastic plastic caps, apparently it's bad to mix two different kinds of plastics: http://environment.about.com/od/recycling/a/plastic_lids.htm
For the beer bottle thing, I think it would be better if the manufacture's retook there bottles back and reused them. I think it would save a lot of energy. However, I guess someone could argue that by doing so, it would use a lot of energy and water to wash all of the bottles.
