Now THAT was very amusing. biggrin However, I'm going into Mod-Mode now, so be prepared.
Although I'm not quite sure, I do believe that, if you wish to make a thread, you have to let Chris, our Captain, approve of it in a specific thread. Second, as much as I love the picture, Gaia Online's rules CLEARLY state that a person is not allowed to use or post another individual's image/artwork/whatever without their explicit permission. If you drew the picture, then that's fantastic. However, if you didn't, then either please take it down yourself, or I will delete the thread myself, because that's basically stealing artwork, all intentions aside.
It's the reason so many Japanese artists on the 'net are frustrated with other people who go to their site. -_-;;; So many people steal their artwork that they end up closing down.
Now, please enlighten me on who the original artist of these pictures were, so that we may see if you have permission (written in an e-mail, for example) that clearly gives you explicit permission to post it elsewhere.
That, and I could have sworn that there was another thread specifically made for members to post pictures that they found. :/
Thank you for your time! biggrin

Most artists on Deviantart allow others to post anywhere, as long as they give credit for the picture (and their deviantart account name so others can visit it there). If it's from Deviantart, he doesn't need permission as long as he copyrights it to the artist. As an artist myself, the only thing he did wrong was not post who the picture belonged to. And maybe the whole thing about getting permission thing...

Roselite Blade Most artists on Deviantart allow others to post anywhere, as long as they give credit for the picture (and their deviantart account name so others can visit it there). If it's from Deviantart, he doesn't need permission as long as he copyrights it to the artist. As an artist myself, the only thing he did wrong was not post who the picture belonged to. And maybe the whole thing about getting permission thing... Well, the thing is, before I opened up my artshop on Gaia recently, I read through the rules that regard the use of an artists work, and all the other related topics. The topic of 'Can I post someone's art if it looks cool?' was covered as well, and it clearly stated that unless you have explicit permission that is written down from the original artist, then you cannot use their art until you recieve such permission. Although I know that some people on DeviantArt will gladly let others post their art, so long as they recieve credit and a link back to their gallery, it is not the same with every artist. Also, to say that, just because someone posts their artwork on DeviantArt that it is automatically okay to post it elsewhere so long as you link back and credit is wrong. It's still art theft, and this is what really pisses off many Japanese fanartists.
Although it's really flattering for people to want to post your artwork somewhere else so more people can see it, artists who draw well tend to have their pictures stolen from them the most. You know all those pretty fanarts for anime and video games you can find on the internet in galleries? Many of them came from Japanese websites. Many people think that, because most of these Japanese artists don't speak English, that they can't ask for permission to post these artworks elsewhere, and at best will link back to the original website or, if they can, credit the artist somehow.
What these artists, Japanese and all other nationalities alike, find offensive, is that nobody ASKED them. If someone went to my DevArt account and found my Sailor Snake picture so appealing that they decided to post it elsewhere, I'd be flat out PISSED. If you asked me nicely, then I'll be more than happy to let you post my pics, but only if you ASK. That's how it is with most artists out there. It also will help the artist in question keep track of WHERE their artwork is being posted.
What he basically did wrong was, like you said, not getting permission and not crediting and linking back to the original artist. This is against the rules regarding art use on Gaia, which were put there to protect against art theft, which is becoming a really big problem now. It's in the Mini-shop forum, located right here.
Sorry for sounding like such a prude about it, but art theft, people using art without permission, and all those other things related to art really make me mad. sweatdrop I just thought that I'd point it out, because as a fellow artist, I do NOT want something I spent days to work on to crop up somewhere I never intended it to be.

What my moderators have said is correct. Unfortunately you have posted it in the wrong area, and you need to credit the deviant artist, (id be pissed if someone put my stuff and didnt link it back to my DA), but before I remove it Im going to give you a chance to post it in the right place.

Seeing as most fanartists don't ask for permission to copy characters and designs from SquareEnix or any other companies when they make their artwork, that in itself is technically copyright infringement.
