Aura looked back at Lee, trying to appear collected and calm.

"Yes, sorry. I was just wondering where Elisa--Ellasyn--was. And Aura is fine. No need to be so formal," she said, slightly embarrassed.

Alex turned back to the conversation. "Where's our host?" She asked a little worried.

"You shouldn't fret, Aura!" Lee chided, but reconsidered the situation and began to forget his hunger. "Come to think of it, I haven't seen anyone... or whoever set this dinner up. And there weren't any other cars in the driveway... Is anyone even still here? Maybe we should look for Mr. Gilfax before we eat."

"That's what I was thinking too," Aura replied, looking around. "Let's eat then...Elisa said her dad was never late; I guess he's just waiting for a spectacular entrance at exactly 1830."

"All right, then," Lee conceded, still looking doubtful. "We'll be counting on you to watch the time, then..."

Alex felt uneasy. "I dunno...With him not here, I don't feel right. It just seems wrong to eat while the host isn't present." She said sarcasticly.

Aura nodded, her eyes on the clock when not searching about the room.

"One minute...30 seconds...15...10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...Ta-dah!"

Nothing happened.

"I'm reading the clock wrong, right?" she said a minute later. "Or it's daylight savings time?"

"No you're right. Something's not right here...." Alex said all sarcasm dropped. She got up from her chair and paced a little thinking.

Lee frowned. "Let's wait a little longer. Maybe Mr. Gilfax was deterred on his way here, and is coming late?"

"He is never late." Alex replied. ((Okie dokie))

"Today's Friday," Aura said, trying to think of all possible scenarios. "Maybe he was delayed by something? Or he had urgent business to attend to? Maybe Elisa got the date wrong and they're picking up Elias now? But I saw him just the day before yesterday when he picked us up from school..."

She too was pacing, thinking as quickly as possible. Already it was 5 minutes after the expected starting time.

Alex couldn't think of anything. "No that's all way not like them..." She said sarcasm back.

Another 10 minutes passed, Aura getting more frantic by the minute. She glanced at Gwen and Adam across the room and then sat, exasperated, on a chair. "15 minutes. Something's wrong. No one from the host family has yet to be seen."

I'm tempted to change back to my usual clothes and scour the mansion for clues," she thought, double-checking the clock. "What do you guys think?"

Alex sat down and started to think. "Yea, i'll help." She said.

"Should we call him, then? Does anyone know where he might be, and his telephone number?" Lee nodded toward the sleek black phone set in the far corner of the dining room. "We could try that, if he's still there..."
