Alright, guys, follow me on this one. Might be spoiler-ish, but it's nothing major. Just mentioning a character connection between The Room and Silent Hill 2, so if you haven't played The Room, and you're picky about such things then turn back now.

...

Still here? Okay. I was thinking about it. Now, it's established that Frank Sunderland is James Sunderland's father. No big whoop there. However, I'm thinking about space between the games. James and Mary disappeared before 4.

I'm rambling, but hear me out. Frank kept an umbilical cord in his room for approximately 30 YEARS. In the duration of their relationship, James and Mary must have gone over to his apartment one day. I'm sorry, but upon realizing that that scent of rotted afterbirth was coming from the umbilical cord my father-in-law or father-in-law-to-be kept in his room, I'd be out of there.

Now, you might be thinking, "But Miffles maybe they never went to his apartment." Frank wasn't shy about the chord. He flat out tells Eileen "There are a...lot of strange things in this world... The umbilical cord I keep in a box in my room... Lately, it's started to smell terrible..." Yeah, if Mary and James just had him over for Thanksgiving, or if Frank visited Mary in the hospital, I'm sure that would have slipped out at some point.

You may think it's a stretch for Mary to know, but I think she knew what kind of crazy she was marrying into and just didn't do anything about it.

That's a deal-breaker, honey.

Well that's true, but have you ever thought what James would have thought about it? Maybe James thought it was a freakish thing to do and decided to never introduce Mary to his father?

lol I take games waaay too seriously.

This is also true. Either way I can't see a good family dynamic there. But when you think about it, James was crazy enough to...do what he did, so maybe it didn't phase him.

But I don't think he was crazy when they started dating and when they were married. He didn't go mad until after she got sick.

Yeah, but in his case, given his heritage, I'd think he was predisposed to a bit of cray-cray.

wow!!! thats a pretty interesting viewpoint! James has alot of dark secrets, so that was just another one he hid from MAry

Hey, has anyone else considered the possibility that, since James Dad was the superintendent of the 302 building, and that Little Walter was constantly stalking the place to look at his 'Mom', that Walter and James might have met at some point when they were kids?

That could be why James never got back in touch with his dad.
Maybe he did survive and he was just like "Well.. my dad's a creeper.. maybe I won't talk to him anymore after all.."

Yeah, I guess it depends on what ending you're going by. James could also have just been so shaken up he couldn't talk to anyone in his family again.

Personally i wouldn't hate someone for the insane or dark deeds their forefathers commit, as long as the child can acknowlage that its nutters.

Makes you wonder why James didn't carter Frank off to an insane asylum and thrown the umbilical cord in the bin, assuming that he knew about it... but you have to ask yourself; what drove Frank over the edge in the first place? What if James talked to him about Silent Hill, and what he did to Mary, and his mind snapped because of that?

[plus, if the umbilical cord had been thrown away, Henry would be so screwed! lol ]

I have a feeling James and Frank didn't get along well. And I doubt he would bring his fiance to meet his creepy dad. I mean, he kept the umbilical cord in his living room. Practically on display. And donated the child he found with it to a questionable orphanage in the middle of a forest.

And it's funny, I hadn't realize 'til now, that I didn't really consider James "crazy". He is crazy, but I never thought "man James is crazy."

Who's to say that Mary was all there either? We know little to nothing about her, so she may have her own oddities. Maybe her own family was worse? There's no way of knowing... But speculation is still fun! 3nodding

in the 4th game frank says very cleary "the unbilical cord in my room...has started to smell recently.."

so if its recent due to the games events then even if he had it in plain sight and mary was over there she may not have even seen it as-according to frank-it did not smell at the time she would have been there.

also in the game it says they disapeared a few years back so he may not have been the superintendent for that appartment for more than that time so he may have moved there after they disapeared so they never would have been there.

or people move there houses around a lot so its possible frank never even had the cord out in the open right until taht time.

not trying to be mean to anyone just pointing out a few things i have noticed while playing the games. and its just assumptions so i could be wrong.
