I hate when people call i Teenage Wasteland. It's like, no.
I was listening to the radio last summer with my sister and it came on and she said, "Oh my god, this song is so cool!" I said, "Indeed! It is a classic!!!!!!" And she goes, "Dad, what's the name of this song?" And to piss me off, he says "Teenage Wasteland...."
*walks over and slaps father upside head*
My dad knows it's Baba O'Riley, he's a HUGE Who fan, but he was just testing me

Hahaha. Yeah, the people who call it "Teenage Wasteland" and mean it are ignorant.

I really love how Sammy Hagar of did a tribute to The Who by doing Baba O'Riley live. If I find the video, I give ya the link.

As far as the name Teenage Wasteland, that was the original concept name for the song, back when Pete was still writing Lifehouse.

The name was later used for a different song, and Baba O'Riley was used for the song we all know today.

I hope that clears up any (if not, some) misconceptions as to why people call the song Teenage Wasteland.

I can't believe that this song did not make the Greatest hits album.

It's been on every I've seen, unless you're talking about the LP-only Who's Greatest Hits.

But some of the lyrics are truly puzzling like, "Sally take my hand, We'll travel south cross land, put out the fire, and don't look past my shoulder". I don't even have clue.
The title of the song is definitely referred to Pete's spiritual guru. he second part comes from Terry Riley, an experimental musician Townshend admired. Many of the keyboard riffs and sound effects on Who's Next were a result of O'Riley's influence.
