This is an interesting concept of our culture. I used to be like that, not really looking people in the eyes when i talked to them, even if I knew them. I do look people in the eyes now though, because I am more secure about what they would think of me, and comfortable with myself in general. So I think looking people in the eye when you talk to them, at least to a significant degree, can be seen as a good quality.
