The network also renewed fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, which will enter its sixth season next year. SUPERNATURAL has one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television and does heroic work in a perennially tough time period. It has improved over last season among women and adults 18-34 (29% and 8%, respectively) this season, a remarkable accomplishment for a fifth-year show. - CW.com

The brothers will definitely be back, no word on anyone else returning yet. I know Misha has expressed an interest in returning though, just depends if they'd have a place for an angel, human or a vessel.

Sera Gamble has also confirmed that Kripke is back on board as well and the season will not be dealing with the apocalypse.

So, thoughts?

EDIT: Kripke has now stepped down as showrunner so isn't the big boss of the show anymore. Little bit nervewracking there. HOWEVER, it's not all scary news as Sera Gamble - one of the few people I trust with this show - has taken over instead. Kripke is also staying on as an executive producer and will still remain heavily involved in the show.

I'm going to be controversial here and say that I don't hate the idea of a season six. The show's still strong and while it's had some weak moments this year, it's still been one of the best shows on TV. They've already said it's not going to be Apocalypse mark II, so that's a good sign.

I'm now going to be even more controversial and say that I hope Cas/Jimmy/Misha isn't in it. A lot of my friends have been saying they won't watch if he is and to be honest, I think that's been half the problem this year. People have started tuning in for Cas and ignoring the original storyline. It's a show about two brothers hunting demons, not two brothers and their backwards angel - who has only been used properly three times this season - hunting demons. I don't mind if he pops back for a visit but as a regular? No, thanks. Don't get me wrong, I love Cas and I love Misha but the character's run his course now. He doesn't need to be in the next season.

Basically I'm willing to give this season a shot. I love this show and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes now.

I want Cas in the next season, but I want him to be more like Bobby's character who occasionally helps them, since after the apocalypse he won't need to be with them as much.

I want a sixth season. This season will probably end with the apocalypse, so maybe season 6 will show some of the aftermath and what-not because I always like to know what happens afterward. Plus, how can I pass up getting to see the boys in new episodes.

I am super excited about this. Kripke must have something Ah-maz-sing in store if he's a go for a 6th season.

And, i'm on the fence about Cas. I want him there and then I think like Vee, this show started out with just the two brothers, it should probably end that way. But then again assassinite, you make a good point. They could use Cas in a "Bobby-ish" way, showing up to help every now and then and such.

I guess i'll just have to wait and see! I'm excited to see new episodes, but the thing that excites me the most is that the 6th season wont drag out the apocalpyse. I mean, I still would have watched it, but I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it if they were still draggnig it out.

I seriously cant wait to see what the season finale of this season will look like now. biggrin

HOLY ******** ON A STICK!
THIS. OH LORD. I'M SO HAPPY!
Seriously. Yeeessssssss. ; 3; <33

I really wanted a sixth season,
and I truly believe that it can be done well.
As for Misha, I agree that people need to focus on
the storyline, but I think he's really a very positive
part of the show, and would love to see him stay if
there is a spot for him. The dynamics between Jared, Jensen and Misha
just work well, in my opinion. c:

I've said this before but,
from the perspective of a fan that only
started watching last summer- I'm estatic about a sixth season.
I was worried that, because I got into it so late,
that I might have missed out on enjoying the perks of
tuning in to see new episodes, and just how FUN that is.
With the renewal of the show for another season,
I feel like someone has just given me more time to enjoy SPN in general. <3

I'm really happy it's renewed for a new season, it's my favorite show and one of the few that I watch religiously every week. But, despite that I'm a little concerned about how good the story lines will be. I honestly would have been alright with this season being the last, seeing how they're all working toward the end of the world and all. It would have been a good ending whether the world ended or was saved. I'm just not sure how much thought will be put into another season. Kripke pretty much had the whole series planed out to five seasons, so there is a possibility that he really doesn't have an ideas about episodes for a sixth season. But with the apocalypse out of the way the story can maybe focus on Dean and Sam mending their relationship.

As for Cas, I do love him but I'm not sure he'll have a place in the upcoming season. Unless he becomes a hunter like Dean and Sam. I'm not to sure about him returning.

I'm exactly the same Indu, I'm looking forward to it because I'm still a relatively new fan.

I kinda like the idea of Cas being a hunter, one who appears on occasion to help out the brothers. And have crazy sexual tension with Dean. I don't want to lose Cas really because, y'know, he's Cas and I love him. But if he's just going to be a joke like he is at the moment, don't think I want it.

I have to say.
I would totally go gay for Sera Gamble.
I adore her and completely trust her with the show.
I pretty much love all the episodes she's done,
they've made me laugh, cry, and have always sort of embodied
what Supernatural is for me.
So, no worries there! :3

Wow. I, like, don’t know what to do with this. I feel like I’m defusing a bomb and don’t know whether or not to cut the blue wire or the red one. My spazzing doesn’t have to do with any disagreement of the show coming back for another round, NEVER THAT. I live so much for Supernatural it most likely isn’t healthy, I would be there for the show no matter what but my uneasiness comes from what is going to happen in that sixth season. No apocalypse, which feels like a spoiler to me simply on the fact that we know the boys survive it and Lucifer gets canned. Which is… weird, considering you can’t get eviler then the devil. /:

I told my mom that Supernatural was getting another season and she pressed her hand to my forehead to see if I was sick because I wasn’t yelping like the crazy crazy-person I am when it comes to the Show and I told her the news in a rather depressing tone. I WANT THE SHOW BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON, HELL, A THOUSAND MORE SEASONS BUT I WISH THAT MY SQUEE WAS’NT HELD BACK BECAUSE OF MISHA. THAT b*****d.
I seriously feel so conflicted right now it’s only a little bit funny. I want the Show to continue but if they skim out Cas lamely like I know they will I’m going to be so pissed at them. I love the team dynamic and they’d be losing a great resource. You shouldn’t throw away a good resource until you’ve at least tried to use it. But then again I’m a huge pack-rat so that analogy works for me.

GUISE, MISHA IS MAKING ME CONFLICTED. I THINK I MIGHT HATE HIM A LITTLE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM.

And I really love Sera taking the reins. She’s perfect for the job, I love –I think- all of her episodes and if there’s one in there that I didn’t well all I have to do is compare it to 4.10 and that just makes things better. I think Kripke can do the same job he’s doing now as an executive producer. That, and I think that Sera is a bit of a fangirl and likes Castiel so um, hope?
So, yeah. Conflicted feelings of conflictedness and it’s all Misha’s fault.

I’m between feeling like this for the Show continuing.

And this for what it might mean for one of my favorite characters.

(oh, and Sera Gamble being queen of Supernatural is the most perfect thing in the world I almost can't even express it! I FANGIRL HER SO HARD! xD)

Am I the only one who's not totally on board for this/excited to hear that?

I'm a skeptic but I just...

I just want to say yes, Supernatural is an amazing show, but keep a series running too long and it loses it's pizazz. (I.E.: House M.D., CSI)

Sure, yay, season six.

But I'm still paranoid over it.

(If Castiel's still in it, or if Sam returns to his old-self, then I'll watch...But it's still going to bother me. 100% sure the story line will not be as good...Maybe it can just be a semi-regular "hunting show", sort of how it was in the beginning?)

I'm with Vodka, I'm not all up and excited over it. I'll just have to wait and see. And I swear to God, if it becomes something like Smallville, I won't bother watching it, even for the boys.

I do like the idea of Misha becoming kind of like Bobby, only popping in sometimes.

I'm not sure how I feel about a season 6, let alone having Eric step down. But Sera is actually a good writer, so here's hoping. I won't say no until I see how it does on the premiere.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 18, 2010 8:49 pm

I'll give it at least 7 episodes.
I find a lot of season premieres can be disappointing (The Magnificent Seven from season three for example), so I need time to decide whether I'm in love again or just underwhelmed.
I'll probably end up watching it right through though, I very rarely drop something I love as much as SPN.
I saw n**/Tuck through seasons three and four, I'm a very resilient fan.

I'm gonna tell you the truth the show is not what it use to be I mean the first 3 season where pure genuis but ever since the writers strike the show just hasent been the same it to predictable...the only interesthing and thing they have giving to the show is Castiel and that Sam powers are more powerful that ever!...but no matter how predictable it maybe I'm to much of a fan to stop watching so I'm gonna continue to the bitterend because I know this show cant have a happy ending!
