I have been playing the Viola for over 5 years now and not many people play it. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that also plays the viola. i would love to know, i always love meeting fellow viola players :] How many years have u been playing? what is ur orchestra experience? what do u think of the viola?
ALSO, do u also feel that the viola is greatly under-appreciated by many? especially those that haven't done their research or are ignorant music wise?
Please tell all :]

Hey! I'm a viola player, and have been playing for almost nine years now. I absolutely LOVE meeting other viola players, because it seems like we're so few and far between.
As for your questions... Hmm... Well, I have played my viola in several different orchestras, have done several quartets, duets, and solos, and have been involved with several pit orchestras as well. I can't get enough of the instrument, and am actually going to college for music education, pursuing further education on my viola.

Hai! I' the lone violist at my high school. I've only been playing for 3 years, and for a year before that, I played 3rdviolin because our violists dropped out. Darn the orchestra now band directorrr, scaring people away! I've only played in my high school orchestra, but we have the Greatest director.
I'm not under-appreciated in my group, but in large groups, we are. Seen as just another back up for the diva first violinists, lols.
I really don't like when someone asks what I play and I say viola and they're like, 'Isn't that a violin?'

I've played Viola for the longest time (I really need a life). Seven whole whopping years. I absolutely love the instrument, and I've been first chair in 3 orchestras. My school orchestra there is a whole 6 of us against 40 or something. I hate being all under-appreciated. (though I do play violin, cello, and flute for some fame.) And there is one girl who thinks I'm the biggest idiot ever for playing viola. It sucks.

I play the viola.... kind of. I just started lessons. sweatdrop . But I freakin love it. I love the odd ball instuments, (like the contra bass clarinet.) the school pit band has no viola players yet, and people want me to join. I haven't even gotten to using the bow yet. I love, love, love the viola. it's so beautiful. I first wanted to play a violin. But then I saw a video on youtube and found out the viola is so much more beautiful. And I fell in love with the lower voices, and odd ball intruments. Hee Hee. But my viola is smaller then my teachers violin. sad...

I'm a violist. I've only been playing for a year now though. I started on baritone (yes the brass instrument and yes I am a girl!) but my dad got a job transfer and I ended up going to a school with no band so I ended up in the orchestra playing the viola. I love it! Between the three orchestra classes at my school we a fairly evenly split between violins and violas. My dad got another transfer so I will be going to another new school. This one with a band and orchestra. I'm signed up to play in both.

I'm not exactly a violist because I'm just starting to learn. My sister told me to join orchestra by 11th grade, so I started in 9th grade. I chose viola because the orchestra needs more violas, so I told the orchestra teacher to teach me whatever instrument the orchestra needed most. I hope to become a passable violist because I do love the sound of a full orchestra and I would love to play in one of the band/orch combos my school does sometimes, even though it would probably be as a flute and not a viola. But so far, I'm really liking the viola and I really do want to become part of the orchestra on it. I'm glad that I didn't choose to become a drop in the ocean of violins.
