The Night Before Day 90
Twas the night fore Day 90, when all through the house
Not a Z-head was stirring, not even their louse.
The Zydrate was poured in the needles with care,
In hopes that Graverobber soon would be there.
The Genterns were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Pavi did dance in their heads.
And Mag in her ‘kerchief, and Shi in her cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.
When up on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Repo Man’s blade, and a great sense of fear.
With a lightning fast motion, so brutal and then,
I knew in a moment it must be Nathan!
More rapid than eagles his Razors they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Kidneys! now, Bladders! now, Livers and gore!
More eyeballs! Intestines! And Spines and yet more!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Your payment is late, so despair all you all!!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the Repo Man flew,
With the bag full of blade, and we know what they do.
And then, in a twinkling, I that dread sound was made;
The slashing and boring of each little blade.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Ol’ Nathan had come with a bound.
He was dressed all in leather, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of organs he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a surgeon, just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they glowered! his suit; oh how gory!
His knives were like moonlight, his grin predatory!!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the helm on his head shined with a sinister glow.
The stump of a hand he held tight like a thief,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.
I could see no clear face and my legs turned to jelly,
and I shook when he laughed, like I was just a skelly!
He was gigantic and muscled, a right scary old crook,
And I shook when I saw him, and knew I cooked!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had everything to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And ripped all my guts out, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to the roof, to his wrist gave a whistle,
And away then he flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Repossession for all, and to all a good night!!!"
