I think it's funny that I can get really good advice from friends, family, doctors, etc. but the advice I give is rather inferior.
I was trying to help out my friend Brennan tonight, and I tried my best, but I couldn't pull him out of his mood. He was really down about his relationship. I felt pretty useless, but I also understand that sometimes you just can't do anything.
It never hurts to try though, right? Thoughts? Opinions? Do any of you ever ask for help or expect it to go away?

I never, ever ask for help and it has really bitten me in the a**.
Academically though, oh yeah. I ask professors everything. During certain projects I practically lived in my professor's office.
I suck at advice too. :<

I don't know if the advice I give is any good but people ask me for it sometimes and I like to think I'm at least a little helpful?
Usually I just run through people's options with them, maybe come up with some ideas that they perhaps hadn't thought about. Then run through pros and cons of each. Ultimately it's their problem, their decision, their life, and you can't force their choice. It's not 'sometimes you just can't do anything', it's more you should never do anything for them. The only thing you can do is talk to them, but they're the only person who can do anything for themselves. Just gotta bear that in mind I suppose.
And I ask for help when I need it, but it's more a last resort. I always try to resolve things by myself first, and only ask for help and advice when I have no alternative.

I'll give advice if I think it's useful. If not I'll be there ....THERE THERE. Cause I mean if you've never been in a situation like theres, it's hard to comment and you wouldn't want to say the wrong thing.
I...sometimes ask for help. Usually I'll just wait it out and it'll be gone or I'll investigate things myself.

Never ask, and now only give if they ask specifically for advice and I have something worthwhile to say. Which is rarely (rare that I'm asked, and rare that I have something useful)

All my friends tell me their s**t, and occasionally I'm actually pretty helpful in giving advice, but mostly they know I just listen, am supportive, and would never use it to humiliate them later.
I usually GET really shitty advice, though. xD Luckily, I make pretty good decisions on my own/know where I can get help if I really need it, so it's not an issue.
Honestly Cait, listening to your friend was definitely the best thing you could have done. [:

I can usually give one of my friends good advice, since we think kind of the same way. She's one of the only people that I'll go to for advice, too. Though I'm more likely to ask friends than try and give. Because I'm really bad with people. D:

Advice giving is really hit or miss with me. Sometimes I give amazing advice and I feel like I should go back to school and get into psychotherepy. Other times I have nothing useful to add.
