This used to be a topic dedicated to Wiccans having to initiated into a Coven, but I decided this will be combined with the "Wicca-from a founder..." that thread had to be locked for the good of man.
Anyways speak you mind, but remember in here someone will probably argue with you.....

i think that if someone meets all the requirements for being a Wiccan (except for being in a coven), then they should be called Wiccan. i know this argument'll get tired eventually, but a lot of Solitaries are qualified to be Wiccans, but don't have access to a coven. those people shouldn't be excluded just because they live in the middle of nowhere.

I'd have to agree with being a Wiccan without a coven. I live in the middle of no where Washington. I do not have a choice in whether im in a coven or not. I believe it is because of the Wiccan initiation. Most feels only a coven can preform an initiation, but I believe one can iniatiate themselves.

While there is the debate between "initiated" and "dedicated" I fail to see how one means you can call yourself Wiccan and the other means you can't. While there is a difference in what they are, it doesn't seem like something that should mean you can call yourself whatever you want if you have been through one but not the other.

I agree. I mean in my area there aren't many wiccans, and i was just lucky to have a friend who could teach me about it, but she's leaving, and i'm kinda stuck on my own. if we did have a coven, it was a coven of two, and we didn't really do anything... we only talked about it online. I think that if you are practicing on your own, even if you weren't innitiated, you're wiccan. period.

What is this about Coven's? As far as I know. Just about every other belief. States that you are a Christian etc. If you believe in the key points of the religion. So, why would joining a cult of sorts. Make a person a real Wiccan? Over someone that actually practices the teachings of the belief?

Over someone that actually practices the teachings of the belief? because they think that you need to be part of something, a coven is like a church basically. they try to make you go to church to be a christian, telling you that you need to be part of church to be truly connected to god. Its the prospect of joining others. In my oppinion, things like this is a coven, for we are a group of wiccans practicing together, however that's just my oppinion.

I was actually shocked, and take back a lot of bashing I did on Scott Cunningham. I was reading today in one of his bboks about Wiccans. He says that most sects of Wicca require a coven-like initiation, but he didn't quite believe in that. He asked one question everyone should chew on, "who initiated the first Wiccan?" I think that is a very good point, who did? And who declared the initation rule, or that a Wiccan can't be a solitary?

im glad we all agree. i think it shouldnt matter if you are in a coven or not, circumstances and other things may not allow you to join one (like a few of ours). anyone who says otherwise is talking out of their butt.
