if you're one of those who follows Repo! on FaceBook, or if you were on a certain leg of the road tour... or if you just follow Repo-related events closely, you'll know that Universal, the movie company was filming something that was then called "The Repossession Mambo". the movie is now called "Repo Men". here is a trailer: [x]is anyone else filled with rage? the thing about it is that the movie is hitting theaters in 2010 and claims no affiliation whatsoever with our beloved Repo. in fact, here's TZ's, Alexa's, and Darren's take on the matter: [x]...the thing about it IS... we can't stop this high profile rip off. we can only protest it, we can only do what we do best: dress up as our favorite characters, and sing. sing hard and long, but now we should do it outside of theaters playing this disgusting piece of art theft. pass out playbills, pass out fliers, get people to go to showings of the real thing... of course, there's the small matter of people who like the shoot 'em up bang bang type of movie having a severe distaste for anything that remotely resembles a musical... discuss.

Grr! The fact that it is so similar.. even if they have mechanical organs, and a repo man has to get a transplant, it doesn't change the close similarity. It just irks me..... scream evil

Actually I think the best course of action is to try to go to people who enjoy Repo Men and say "Hey, if you liked this, you might like Repo! The Genetic Opera. It's also about organ repossession..." and then explain more about the movie. If they like Repo! then great. If not, then all they're going to think is that we're whiny, Repo's an inferior movie (what they'll think, not what I think), and that we should just shut up.
Basically, the people who would like Repo will like it whether they see Repo Men or not. It just gives us a new crowd of people to target as potential fans.
To be honest, if Repo! didn't exist and only Repo Men did, then it's the kind of movie I might see. It doesn't look terrible, and you can't fault its future fans for it being a Repo rip-off, can you?

Unfortunately, this is old news and it has been going on for well over a few months. It is ture that we're rather helpless against it. No one can sue without getting sued back (i.e. Repo's creators vs Repossession Mambo's). Of course it would hit the news like a boulder. But that's just not happening.
And as Swift said, recommend The Genetic Opera to people after the see the Genetic Rip-Off. Too much of it's similar. And Repo was well before Mambo's time. DIdn't they start filming Repo! The Genetic Opera in 2007 and it came out in 2008, or something like that.
Not to mention about the plot. But a man suffers from heart failure and in order to pay his debt, he becomes a Repo Man. Or something along those very lines.
The best we can do is to wait. As previously mentioned, we might as well dress up as characters from Repo!, give it the ol' razzamatazz and show why Repo! is so gosh darn better.

RAGE! Ok. I'm done. We really can't do much. All above posts aside, this is a big budget film and Repo was small because they knew it would make it better that way. This will be a big film flop and then we can try to salvage the fans by showing them what real film is about.

Actually, Repo! has its roots in the late 90's when Darren Smith and Terrance were creating their ten minute Operas. It was originally "Necromerchant's Debt", but when they took it farther and made it into a full blown stage Opera in the early '00s, it claimed the title "Repo! The Genetic Opera".
Universal only came up with the idea after DLB, Darren S., and Terrance tried to get them to take on the role of bringing Repo! to life. They rejected it saying that the musical aspect of it was crap, but took the whole plot line and began to attempt to sabotage Repo!.
Do what Swift has said and convert these Repo Men! fans into Repo! fans. We need to let the public know the truth, and this is the best way to do it without causing a major uproar. However, I can see some people taking things too far and giving us Repo! people a bad name.

This new movie is absolutely nothing like Repo: The Genetic Opera.
I mean, come on. Repo Men takes place in a future where a massive company is providing replacement organs at exorbitant prices, then repossessing them when the buyer defaults on the payments.

That's right. I said talk about it? Okay, lets get this out - I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT REPO MEN! In fact, I am really let down. All it takes is one viewing of the trailer to see how similar our movies are. Come on, Organ Repossession? Cheesy commercials selling organs? An EVIL corporation? A bar code logo which is scanned by REPO MEN? A street drug - the corporation turning on their main REPO MAN - The mere name - REPO MEN?!? Yeah - all too familiar. But that is the exact reason I want you to not bash this movie. Think about what that says for our little opera? We have a bunch of angry bitter fans, ready to spam message board, and preach hate... THAT is not what our REPO is about. What I do want you to do is talk about REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA! Talk about what you love about it, talk about how it affected you. Talk about the friends you have made from it. Talk about experiences you have taken from being apart of the community! I have not seen REPO MEN! But I can almost promise you - it will not STILL be in theaters ONE YEAR after it's release. I can almost PROMISE you people will not make road trips thousands of miles away to catch a screening of the movie. I can almost PROMISE you fans won't form bonds, have parties, and even have 'themed REPO MEN weddings. I can almost guarantee you people will not dress up as characters from REPO MEN for Halloween. All things REPO! The Genetic Opera accomplished in a mere six months after it's release. The world is big enough for both of us to exist...
