i want to make it more obvious but everytime i try to draw the scars bigger they look stupid
and also ill probably be needing to draw more liek it in the future given the nature of the comic he belongs to
so yeah any tutuorial suggestions or critique you can offer for drawing fresh scars open wound etc

I don't know of any tutorials, but I can say your problem would probably be quickly solved by a little critical thinking and research smile !

just google "wound", you can specifically google something more specific like "bite wound".

This is what I got when i googled "bite wound", for example (it's a deep cat bite, apparently. Think of how you could translate that to a werewolf bite).

Look at the examples from the page, and find your own way of drawing wounds. Or, watch your favorite werewolf movies and find wound examples and ideas there.

If you have a big comic book selection, it's a GREAT idea to look through THAT for moments when the characters are wounded, hurt, and bleeding, because the artist of that comic book has already translated real-world information into a 2-d drawn media, so you can also learn from them.

also- zombie movies and certain animes are probably a good idea to reference, too smile .

Anyway, I hope that helped. Just remember that you don't always need a tutorial to learn to draw something. It helps immensely, but thinking for yourself goes a long way, too heart . Good luck on your comic!

Actually, coming up with your "own style" should comprise of finding artists of all sorts and analyzing them and incorporating the things they do (that you like) into your own work. You're only hindering yourself if you vow to not reference any artists, comics, or cartoons :/.

I know your thinking scars and what not, but with your pic I think you may wanna go more towards torn clothes and blood stains. I mean yeah you definitely need some wounds and junk, but you need to realize that torn and blood stained clothes can give the image the same effect.

i say its pretty good, but he needs to look "looser". like make his torso and arms twisted (not in an irregular shape, but if he fell to the ground his arms should be at an angle......you know what i mean?) also try to scratch up his face or at least dirty it up.. i know you said that you were working on the wounds, but a few marks on the face wouldnt hurt!

great job though!

I agree. It's very well done, but I think in particular, the wrists need to be more lax. the hands should appear limp opposed to stiff.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet, but it might help to look at how makeup artists do fake wounds. Then you'll learn how the skin needs to open, where it should bulge and where it should cut back.
Try googling or youtubeing some videos of it?

I call bullshit on this one.

Your own style comes from knowing what exists through observation of life and interpreting it. Studying other artists without that understanding tends to have people pick up their bad habits and pretty much nothing else. ESPECIALLY people who are working with cartoons and stylization. Understanding things is the key to solidifying your style. Also, over the years my style hasn't changed. The style is the same because my view and interpretation hasn't changed. The quality of the work merely increased.

- Watch videos of makeup artists
- Look at actual wounds

These are good advice people have mentioned. I'll go on to say that as you do this, take notes. Write down things. Like "depth visible". So you will remember not to just change the colour of the flesh, but to show that the new skin isn't as thick as the old. Go to web md and look up types of scars. There are many types and you will get good information on the physical characteristics and textures of each.
