The kookaburra is a largeish native australian bird, also known in Australian folk law as the "laughing jackass bird" it is also a member of the Kingfisher family. We have quite a few of these birds living in the bush near my home and around 6am every morning they wake me up with their laughter mixing in the the call of the magpies and other birds!

Heh... Kookaburras are funny.... xd At Australia Zoo, one of them was "laughing" at my dad.
