Less emoticons, please.

I loved the book, it's one of the better ones I've read recently.

I believe we have a discussion thread for it already, so if you'd look for that there's more detailed opinions.

The movie looks cool, but I kinda wanna read the book first, to see how accurate they made it.

I'm hoping to be able to read the book first before I watch the movie, although I haven't bought the book yet... >_<

I read the book a couple of years ago.... it is very intriguing, somewhat shocking and extremely revealing in terms of opening your eyes to the vast culture you never thought existed. It is a great book!

it really is an amazing book. What surpirses me more is that the world of Geisha still exists but they won't advertise their services and even alot of the Japanese dont know what exacty goes on behind Tea House doors

its a must read book and even if your a big fantasy fan (like me) it will keep you interested til the last page biggrin

I just now started reading the book and it is really interesting. I never knew how different cultures really were until now.

I would be careful about drawing a lot of real world life from Memoirs. As much as I love the book, it's a work of fiction, and there's a raging debate on the finer points of the novel. smile

Still, I love the book, and I'm looking forward to the movie. heart

I loved this, and would like to see the film, but am a bit nervous about it - the usual will-it-do-justice-to-the-book debate. There's an earlier thread in this forum also with some interesting comments on the book.

I've heard that the book is awesome but it might be a while before I read it...

See, a few months ago, I was at a bookstore and I wanted to buy it but my mum (don't make fun of me for still living with me mum, I'm only 14) refused to let me buy it mad She thought it was something along the lines of porn.... (since geishas can be related to prostitutes rolleyes ).

My mum thought the same thing!

I actually just finished this book a few weeks ago so it's pretty fresh in my mind.

I don't know if I'm overly hard to impress when told something has been on the best seller list for x number of weeks or that I -must- read something because it is -so- good but that's how it is. I did like the book and I enjoyed most of it but, in the end, I wasn't nearly as impressed as everyone else seemed to be. It was a mixture of things, really, but I can't say much without ruining the ending and the plot for others. The safest one I can say is that, while there was an elaborate set-up to portray the book as an authentic "memoir", it never let me forget that it was a novel and, as with a lot of novels, I could see each aspect coming from a mile away.

Over all, though, I really liked the first two thirds and it was only at the end when I had to force myself to finish. I liked the color and the description and the training bits so I don't at all regret reading it and I'd never say don't. It was definitely interesting.
