I'm okay, nothing broken or bruised. My co-worker that was riding with me and the guy I crashed into is okay as well.

It happened this morning around 6:30-6:45 and I had just past a town called Parachute. It's 13 miles from there to Rulison, and about 2-3 miles before Rulison this guy in a White Dodge truck came up behind me in the fast lane, going up my butt and trying to get me to go faster (or tailgating me). A couple of times he tries to pass me in the slow lane (while I was still in the fast lane) and both times he couldn't pass me and flew back right behind me.

The fast lane was going different speeds between 75-90 mph, so each time he tried to pass the guy in front of me would speed up, so I would do. This pissed the other driver off.

After the first time he passed me, he and I exchanged a few... inapproprite hand signals, which got him even more angry. Once we passed Rulison he was getting more aggressive and becoming more of a dangerous driver.

Once we reached the exit for a town called West Rifle, I was finally able to get into the slow lane, and as he passed me he made other hand gestures. As soon as he got passed me he cut me off (jumped in front of me not even a 1/4 of a car length in front of me) and slamed on his brakes. I slamed on mine and dove into the fast lane where I started to fishtail (spin out) and we collided my passenger front of to his driver front end.

I don't know how many times I and my co-worker spun, but it got us about 5-10 feet from falling into the Colorado River, and the other driver was hanging from the edge of the bank with the tip of his truck nose in the river.

After everyone got checked to see if anyone was hurt, and I finally calmed down (I was screaming even after the dust cleared and the police showed up I was so scared) the state patroler decided that, even though the other guy was in fault, if I had just backed off and got away from the guy then it wouldn't of happened. I'm too much of an aggressive driver, and when 2 of them bunt heads, an accident tends to happen.

I've had the biggest wake up call of my life today, and sadly (I'm ashamed of this) it took me, my co-worker, and someone else to make me open my eyes and realize that I need to get some help. We all could of been killed.

The patroler, instead of writing us both of for reckless driving (which is automatic 8 pts taken and court summons) only wrote us up for Careless (4 pts removed but reduced to 2 if ticket paid on time). The other driver is from out of state and had no car insurance, so he has an automatic court summons. I was told I could go to his court appt if I wished to, but I might not.

Claim is done, I have no car so I can't work until it's either fixed or someone can drive me to the work places, and I'm okay. I'm still really shaken, but this is one day I'm not going to forget, and I'm going to take a defensive driving class.

I'm just really glad no one was seriously injured. Like I've told many people before, bags of water (aka humans) do not mix with hunks of metal (aka cars). A car is a weapon, and should be droven with caution. I mean flipping people off is fine... except in certain places (like apparently CA, people get shot here XD).

Anywho.

Ya. Just be carefuly hun. If there is another agressive driver, just bite your lip and let 'em pass, with or without hand gestures.

People need to pay more attention to the other drivers around them, and the road. Not texting, not reading, not changing music every two seconds, not changing lanes everytime they pass a car. Just stay in the lane you're driving, you all get there the same time anyways, why risk killing someone to spare a few seconds? Really.

Like I said though, I'm really glad no one was hurt. *hugs* Just be more careful, ok?

Road Rage is a serious thing. I know I have it.
But sometimes you just have to remember that this
isn't someone you see everyday and you have to let
go of feeling like they can just walk over you when they want.

When I drive, at least once a day, I'll let someone pass me,
cut me, or turn before me. My good deed for the day I call it.

I'm glad that no one was seriously hurt and that a lesson was learned.
Not many people learn that lesson without large circumstances.

i'm glad you're fine Sachan, and that no one else was seriously hurt *hugs* car accidents, even the minor ones, are scary things. i was in a fender bender a couple years ago that somehow ended up knocking the engine of our van off of where it was supposed to be, rendering it unworkable. it was completely the other driver's fault because
a. there was an accident ahead, so everyone had merged to one lane and were stopped (note: NOT MOVING)
b. she apparently hadn't noticed this at least two kilometres back (it was dusk or nighttime; you would think you would notice a line of red lights on one side of the road).
c. her brother in the car ahead of us apparently called her to tell her about the jam
d. she swerved over two empty lanes to get in line, and ended up hitting us, sitting at the end of the line.
and the most annoying part was; we were stranded in Huntsville with no working vehicle, and she was able to drive off no problem. we were heading up north to visit my grandmother :/ we ended up renting (a very cramped) car and heading back home. i liked that van. it had air conditioning, it was roomy, it worked, and we had barely had it for a year (bought used; it was 16 or 17 years old, but the owner never drove it in the winter so it was in really great condition). even scarier, my brother and i were sitting in the very back seats. to say i was shaken was an understatement.

.........i kinda went on a tangent without meaning to D: but it's probably thanks to that incident that i'm as careful a driver i am...probably also part of why i didn't want to start driving. i'm a speed limit kind of driver...slower than speed limit if i don't pay attention ^^U i often had to be urged to go faster by my parents when i was learning...and be more aggressive. but i don't do aggressive. too scary.

you're lucky everyone wasn't seriously hurt, and you got off with just that. i don't like to have to scold you (especially since you're older than me and a more experienced driver XP), but aggressiveness and driving have never gone well together, so shame on you for getting riled up by that guy ):<

Hisaki: *snort* look up Bad Habit by The Offspring xd you'll find it oddly appropriate.

i agree. i hope they make the use of cellphones while driving illegal, if they haven't already. enough accidents have happened thanks to them, on top of aggressive driving.

Thanks guys, and believe you me lesson learned big time. Though everyone is okay, a lot of bad happened too. I have no car so I can't go anywhere or get to work, so until I get my car to a shop I can't do work. Maybe if my boss finds someone to drive me to the work spots, but other then that I have no way to get anywhere, and Toboe won't let me touch his car until I'm put as a driver on his insurance.

I just woke up from a nap... I think 2-3 hour.

Thank you anon, I'm glad nobody was as well.

UPDATE!

Okay, so today I called my insurance adjuster, did the fun 15-20 min recording of him asking me questions, and he's going to be sending someone out to view my car within the next few days. The car is fixable, just not drivable because the tires on the drivers side of the car are blown and really messed up.

Thing that sucks though is that, since the other driver has no insurance, there is a chance that I'll have to pay for all the repairs to my own car. But toboe is saying that it doesn't matter how in fault I, or the other guy, is because I have complete and full coverage.

So now I'm in a fight with my insurance company, who I just signed up with On Augest 20th.... *sighs*

I do have a working car to use until my car gets fixed though, but Toboe doesn't know if the battery will hold a charge. But either way... yeah lol

You never pass on the slow lane DX
My parents call the inner lane the passing side and the outer lane the suicide.
But yeah, i'm a very meek driver. I'll let people get through. I'd rather not deal with douchebags pulling a move like that DX Last time i heard a story like that, the person died.

but i'm glad you weren't hurt *clings*
And good luck with the insurance company! Fight for every goddamn penny you can! Because i know in a crash, they'll take you for all you're worth =_=

I misunderstood what the guy was saying on the phone, and found out that I'm still completely covered, and that the whole 50/50 % thing is that if I'm 50% or more in fault then they won't try to sue the other driver for funds to repair my car.

If I'm 49% or less in fault, then they'll (my insurance company) will sue the other driver for what they can get from him, and since he doesn't have any car insurance then it'll have to be directly from the other driver.

Either way, I still only have to pay a $500 deductable, and my insurance will take care of the rest.

Sorry for worrying anybody sweatdrop
