Alright, I like my shammy, it's fun, it's hip, it's blueish-purple... but since I got dual spec, I'm not completely definite on which specs I want to be. Right now I'm Elemental and Resto, I don't have to change much of my gear to switch between them, and I'm a great caster.. but Enhancements just hit so damn hard! Not to mention, its much easier to find gear for enhancement, but I'd be rolling against hunters, and we know how they can be.. xd
Anyways, I'm still not decided, I'd like to hear some opinions on shammy specs at any level but I'm very interested to hear about specs at 80. What specs should I consider, and why?
Edit: For those who care to know, of course I'll need to have the pve spec until 80 maybe longer for Cata, but I DO pvp, haven't done much pvp heals, but I'd like to!

My Shammy is also Ele/Resto, but I'm contemplating changing it to Resto/Enhance. Pewpewing is fun, but it seems Enhance is doing better DPS then Ele. Sure, it's a convienence not having to do a whole slew of swapping gear from Ele to Resto vic versa, but DPS gets you into the raids nowadays. I haven't been Enhancement since level 45, and I miss Windfury Dx
Then again, my Shammy is not that geared due to the fact when I do get to raid, nothing drops, and or someone else gets the loot. It's also hard finding a good guild that will accept my lower DPS and my not quite there Resto set xD Though I did join my friend's guild who runs Naxx for members who need to be geared, but I've been on vacation, thus no raiding for me. QQ
So yea..IMO, Ele/Resto is nice for the convience, but Enhance/Resto is nice because Windfury hits like a muthafacka.
Oh, and I'd like to hear other people's opinions too. I wanna do what's best for my Shammy, specwise, so yea. C:

I feel ya. This is my first shammy over 19, so I'm enjoying it. Like I said though, most of my other alts are casters, so it's not like it'd bother me to be enhancement at all, more gear drops, and like you said, better dps in general. I'm thinking when I get my toon to 70 and can raid some, I probably will switch my main spec to Enhancement.
Anybody else care to share some shammy secrets?! blaugh

I have an 80 shammy, and I leveled as enh. Enh is the fastest, since you hit the hardest, and don't need to drink....like ever. I was enh/enh, just because I could be up until like 70. Then at 70, I decided there were so many quests that gave resto gear, and didn't give enh gear. So I went enh/resto, because finding healers for groups was hell. That's just what I did though, but enhance is a clear winner for a leveling spec. By far, it isnt even close to ele.

Yea, Enhancement is 10x faster then Ele when leveling, which, being me, decided to screw faster leveling ><
My one Shammy friend is Enhance/Resto. He's currently running 25man Ulduar and the ToC raids. He gets on average 5.7k DPS, and on good days, gets up to 6.3k. His Resto set is amazing too. Me so jealous of him D :
So I guess all in all, Enhancement is uber leveling, and for your second spec always do Resto.

That's good. There are shamans on my server who pull like...7.5 on loatheb, patchwerk, and thaddius. It's crazy. If you pick any other spec to lvl up with, or to high end dps with, you are making a mistake.

Indeed. I need to switch to Enhancement, but I need to get semi decent gear for the switch first D :
I will miss Ele though...
And on top of getting decent gear for it, I'll need a new tree AND rotation...any suggestions? x'D

My friend has a good rotation. But he is the highest dps shammy on the server, and refuses to share his rotation with ANYBODY. But as for gearing up, heroics are my suggestion. Since they give out marks of conquest now, you can get gear in the heroics, and use the badges to get pieces of t8 to gear up as well.

I have a few decent pieces for my Enhance set, for example:
The Stray-fist weapon that drops off of trash in Naxx
Some belt from a heroic
Some gloves from a heroic
Some boots from 10man Naxx
im so diskriptive amirite? ;P
Anyways, the only problem I would be facing is getting rings/trinks. I'm not that patient when it comes to saving up badges and doing heroics DX

Yeah, I'm seriously considering switching my main spec from ele to enh, my fiancee's roommate was normally resto/resto but went back to ele for pvp, and was easily hitting for 3-4k dps without gear, but when he's raiding with his resto, he manages like 9k-13k hps, it's nuts!
Either way, I really like all of the specs for Shamms, they're all pretty well rounded. Don't get me started on Lock specs. stressed That's for the next topic.. xd

Ele/Resto here, Was pure resto but guild needed a Ele shaman, so resto went to the background. I do a far amount of damage but the guild also sees the utility of me. I am often tossing random heals off on people in 25 mans and spot healing when needed. Totem of Wrath FTW! Shaman are far too versitile to be pigeon holed with other DPS. If people are whining about yours, then they don't understand what a shaman is. It's nice to be able to burst out some damage and not be as concerned with drawing agro as a clothy is.

Actually that's not true. I was on my alt doing a 25 naxx, because it's easy and puggable. There was a shammy there whose name was Windmanfury (been changed since then) who had to back up like 2 or 3 seconds before Feugen and Stalagg swapped tanks, because he continually did over like 7.5k dps, and would grab threat right before the switch, causing a wipe. They do need to worry about it, and don't forget. OP's shammy isn't 80 yet, if I read the post correctly. So as of right now, considering he still needs to level, enh would be the best.

I'm definitely not happy with my DPS as Elemental. I might not have the best gear, but my DPs shouldn't be what it is despite that factor. I want to make the switch to Enhance/Resto soon, but I'm in Connecticut visiting family...gaahhh.
I would just need to do some heroics for a little more gear and could then possibly make the switch.
Anyone know where to get some good mail shoulders for melee? Perferably not from a raid D;
