People look at me funny when I take notes in my Bible at church sometimes. stare
Why should I carry around a notebook when I have margins in my Bible?
What if God speaks to me and I want to record it and I only have my Bible at hand!
Personally, I think taking notes inside Scripture is fine. I have a Bible for note-taking and studying, and a "clean" Bible for all of the other stuff.

I am currently doing a really extensive study on 1 and 2 Peter in the New Testament, mainly because I am hoping to maybe lead a study of it at my weekly Bible Study.

Here's an example of what my Bible looks like when I open to 1 Peter, haha...

I use to write in my bible quite often, writing things out helps me to process it better but it got frustrating after a little while since there wasn't too much and I stopped and decided to use my keyboard instead.

It's a book, inspired yes but it's just paper you're writing on to better understand God's word so I don't see any problem with it.

Yup! Over that.. after I had asked my professor if it was okay.

I don't think my TA had any right to tell me I couldn't.

it was an essay referring to the Sermon on the Mount and Theism VS Deism and thus was writing about the Abrahamic G-d.

I don't see how highlighting and annotating is defacing holy books. In English we're required to highlight and annotate the books we read in class because it helps us understand the main idea and symbols, etc in the book. The same technique can help us better understand Holy Books.

I recently got into a sort of habit about that and I must say, it's quite ******** useful.
I haven't written in the copies of the Bible I have myself. I would like to purchase two others because one that I have is NKJ xp and the other has been written in extensively by someone else, I'm actually not sure who.

I can see myself doing so in any book I own/ed that was nonfiction, not just the Bible or religious texts. Like I say, it's damn useful to aid in understanding what the text is saying.
(And if you disagree with and/or know the author is wrong, you can write derogatory comments in the margins and satisfy your childish need for oneupidness. If you're like me and have a childish need for oneupidness.)

I did this to a copy of a SRW book.

How's it awful? It helps you out actually. Many of my English teachers in High School required us to highlight and annotate in our books as we did questions, prepared for debates, discussions, tests, etc. It's a very useful study tool.

Also, highlighting makes looking up certain passages easier. biggrin

GOD is a God; not all Gods need be GOD.

You're missing the point dear. Jews believe in the same God as Christians and Muslims. They are stricter when it comes to saying God's name in vain.

In this instance God=YHVH.

I always take notes in the margins of my scriptures. I don't have any pics to show, but it's hard to find an empty margin in my scriptures.
I don't look at it as defacing. But then again it's all personal preference.
