This is where you can discuss your favorite books, books you didn't like, what you're currently reading, what you're planning on reading next, favorite authors and anything else that has to do with books smile

I'm currently reading Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. The story is quite similar to The Da Vinci Code, but personally I don't think it's as well-written. Story-wise Angels & Demons comes before The Da Vinci Code, and I think he's definitely evolved as an author in the last book. I can't wait for the next one, which rumor has it will take place in Washington whee

Hmmm. I've never heard of this book. What catagory is it under. My fave author is J.D Robb...or Nora Roberts. I just love the In Death series to...well...Death!...LOL. It's set in 2059 and the main gal is a homicide detective. She meets her future husband on a case and that starts the ball rolling for so many books. I highly reccomend it!

I guess it could be categorized as a murder mystery? Basically it's about a symbologist trying to solve a murder by breaking codes and following clues. One of the things that makes it unique though is that the author uses a lot of real symbology, like hidden meanings in Da Vinci-paintings and things like that. IMO The Da Vinci Code is an amazing book, and so far Angels & Demons seems pretty good too 3nodding

I loved The Da Vinci Code, and want to find and read Angels & Demons next. I bought the newest version of The Da Vinci Code, copyright November 2004, that had pictures of all the works of art and buildings that they talked about.

I'm currently reading Re-Birth by uh.. *goes to check* John Windham, which is a science fiction set in the future after a time when the current civiliazation has destroyed itself and slowly started to rebuild.

Well... I just finished Angels & Demons, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. The book has kind of a "slow start" (not like The Da Vinci Code that jumps right into the action), but once it gets going it's very good (if not as good as The Da Vinci Code it's very close). But then suddenly it just... falls apart. It's unrealistic to the point where it's almost ridiculous, and the religious part of it completely takes over. For me it was just too much. One of the reasons I liked The Da Vinci Code so much was because the religious aspect was so subtle. In Angels & Demons it's thrown in your face again and again, and after a while you don't know who's side you're on anymore. My head was spinning when I closed the book, it felt like I'd been one on too many rides in an amusement park...

Edit: A lot of people seem to like Angels & Demons better than The Da Vinci Code, so this is just my humble opinion whee

Next I will be trying to finish Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I started reading it a while back, but gave up on it about halfway though.

Thanks for the critique! I'll be reading that one next, I think, and it's good to have a head's up about possible drawbacks. I'd be interested to know exactly what the opposing religious viewpoints were that were battling back and forth, and what you think Brown's point was (unless that would spoil the book to hear it already.) I was thinking maybe you could tell me in PM, but it might be the half of me that still thinks this is Neo and we'll get frozen for talking about religion, which isn't true of Gaia.

.. i'm reading one of my Sue Grafton books again now. C is for corpse this time. i have mentioned her before but she's worth another plug. has anyone else read any of this series?

She does the alphabet books right? I did a long long time ago. My ex's mom a couple. I loved them but just haven't gone out to get any myself. I love mystery novels anyway, I used to be a huge Agatha Christie reader.

Does anyone here read fantasy? My most favorite book I've read recently was The Fairy Godmother, by Mercedes Lackey and someone else. (She's doing a lot of callaboration, but they are all good in my book... HA!) I'm reading something else now that is okay, but I'm not speeding through it as I do when the book is excellent. I am waiting for Mickey Zucker Reichart's sequal to Legend of Nightfall to come out in paperback. Wonder if it's happened by now, lol? I haven't had any extra money, so have been studiously avoiding book stores so that I won't be tortured by what I can't have!

LOL me too! I could seriously spend days in a book store. Occassionally I treat myself to the library but since I owe them some overdue books I lost in the moves I can't check anything out so I just spend the day in the comfy leather chairs reading until I can't see. wink

I've never seen those movies...but as long as they have the right additude and accents it would be soo cool if movies were made. I have all...I mean all of the books....Did you read the one called 'Remember When'...the crossover between Nora Roberts and J,D Robb? It was so cool reading the two so different styles and knowing they came from the same person!
