Okay, so, since I came to college, I've taken up studying German. Because of this and my policy of making friends with all of my professors (by the way, for those of you going to college, this is a VERY GOOD IDEA), I've made friends with a lot of people from other countries. And the things I've heard... oh, man.

Story 1: One of my friends is from Bulgaria, right, and made a remark to one of her classmates that her uncle had gotten drunk and ran into a lightpole. No big deal, right?

Well, the genius opens up her mouth and goes "How do you run a horse into a lightpole?"
"What?"
"Well, you still have horse-drawn carriages in Bulgaria, right?"

crying

Story 2: One of my friends from Poland mentioned that she was going to go e-mail her mother. The punchline for this is very simple:

"You have computers in Poland?"

Do you guys have any stories like this?

Haha.
That's really bad, but funny.
Who are these people? And why don't they get out much?
Dx
I probably have some stories, but I can't remember them right now.

Asians and Hispanics.
I can't recall any specific ones, but I think you know what mean.

They're college students. Going from what my friends and teachers say, this is common in Americans - imagine people stepping off of a bus in, say, Germany or Sctoland and then yelling "WHERE DA CASTLEZ AT" and you have their view of Americans. Apparently this happens a lot :X

Yes, I think a lot of people in other countries have a bad impression of us because of a few dimwits. Morons abound, even in our institutions of higher learning. We seem to think that the entire rest of the world, should we choose to go and look at it, is there as a sort of cultural theme park.

On the other hand, having lived in Orlando near Universal for several years, I can also say that it goes both ways. Maybe tourists of any description are just scary people.

Germany has some pretty cool castles.
Tee hee.

But yeah, the most common stereotype about Americans I've heard is that we're all stupid.
And a lot of us are. But not ALL. Sigh.

The funny thing is that as far as primary education goes, European countries have a much much better curriculum. I'm amazed what they teach in terms of mathmatics, for instance, in Scandanavian(sp?) countries.

Then again, I was pretty heavy into the demoscene during the 90s.

Whoo. I went to Orlando last Summer. In Epcot they have that thing were there are all different countries in the world, and the one in England had a tea shop! I've never seen a tea shop, ever. Hehee. I don't like tea, it makes me sick. It also had a pub, a fish and shop (I guess so XP) and..."Ye olde Sportsman." o_O;

I've herad plenty of those things.
Only more about religions...
Like with Mormons, and the rumors that go around.
Someone asked if we were allowed to drink Coke...I almost died.

Yeah, some of my friends are Mormon.
I offered one coffee once and she almost bit my head off.
Twitch. I forgot. I felt really bad afterwords.

I hate people who sterio type. Some kid was telling me how he hated goths, but I was trying to explain to him that he made people feel bad about themselves and probably made a few people turn goth.

Not a national stereotype, but I hate the way that most people see Nintendo gamers as illiterate kids who can't live without their Gameboy and constantly bash GTA and Halo.

I like Halo, although I've never really cared for GTA (I'm not saying it's a bad game though), but I am at heart a true Nintendo fan, and I don't like the way my type of gamer is portrayed. I don't bash Microsoft or Sony; heck, I love FF and I think Halo is the best shooter I've played, but I would appreciate it if people didn't make fun of Nintendo. I despise it when people say that Mario games are for kids (obviously they have never played SMRPG), and when they think all the Megaman games are carbon copies of others (which they aren't; all have their own stories, no matted how close they may seem). Aside from all that, where would games be without the influences from Metroid, Zelda, Megaman, and, especially, Mario?

I just want a little tolerance from people and the promise of equality. Is that too much to ask?

(That ends my fanboy rant-esque statement, since most people will see it that way)

i hate how some ppl are so stereotyped about canada that they think we're all like bob and doug mckenzie and that as soon as you cross the border from the us it's all snowy and we live in igloos and all drive around on snow mobiles all year...parts of the us (other than alaska) are farther north than parts of canada, eejits rolleyes

and one time in gr 8 we were talking about something in class about persecutiong ppl and stuff and i said something about how when the english were ruling ireland they didn't let the irish own anything and such and also didn't even let them speak their own languange and one of the guys in my class said 'what do you mean? like saying me instead of i and stuff' and he was an idiot anyways, but english ppl speak like that and irish is an actual language (also called gaelic) that's nothing like english (a variation is spoken in scotland too) eg. failte (pronounced fall-cha) means welcome, as in your welcome, cead mile failte means one hundred thousand welcomes

Ah, coming from Australia I get it all the time. Kangaroos are not awesome national animals. We usually have annual culls to reduce numbers (there are literally millions), and although they can sometimes escape into backyards and onto roads where I live, backing onto a hill, no one keeps them as pets, and they aren't that commonly eaten. People seem to ask about it as soon as they find out where I'm from.

Also, no one talks like Steve Irwin. Steve Irwin in a national joke.

DarkSoul Forte - Nintendo love! I'm replaying Zelda: Ocarina of Time right now. 3nodding
