**On the borders **

User Image

-His claws shifted lightly through the soft granules of sand as he gazed across the desert. The sun was hot, baking the blackness of his pelt, but Kardama did not mind. Not right now. The lightest of breezes tickled his mane, soothing the otherwise warm day, and really... after spending so long in the coolness, the heat was a reprieve for now.

Glancing around for signs of life other than tracks and the skeletal remains of prey beast he'd seen earlier, he sighed softly. Was this the place he'd heard about vaguely from mother? The place he'd been inclined to see first after leaving mother and family behind? So far it didn't look so great.-

User Image It wasn't her job to patrol their borders. Kibela knew this. She knew it was probably best to stay close to their home. In case she should be needed... But no. She could do no such thing. The lioness was restless lately. Her little cubs were all grown up, and most of them had left her done. Some of them had even left the pride, much to her shame. The only bright side to having finished raising her first litter... was that she knew what mistakes not to make, should she ever have a second litter...

Shaking away the thoughts, the dark-furred lioness made her way along the edge of the land, ruby eyes scanning for any possible trespassers, and trouble.

She hadn't been expecting to find anything... But she did. Her eyes were quick to fall on what looked to be a lion after she crossed a dune. He stood out just as easily as herself, with his black pelt. But the bright, white and gold flashing mane made him even more obvious.

Quickly reaching a decision on what to do about this, the Magistrate moved to slide down the dune, beginning to trot up quickly towards the male. She kept her pace quick, but neutral, showing no outward signs of hostility as she approached him, calling out when she was close enough for him to hear.

" You come close to the lands of the Firekin, Gilded one. " A habit, of hers, calling others by names she thought suited them.. Even if she knew their actual names. She still often called Kidondo the 'Blood Lion'

-He had spotted her, even before her pace had picked up, and he'd braced himself. His stance was tall, even a little intimidating to the average rogue, but without any real symbols of aggression. It was something he'd learned young on, mastered in his adolesence. It was surprising how often simply looking big could get one out of a fight or an unwanted encounter.

Eyes taking in the feminine frame, trying to dechiper her strength and experience based purely on muscle tone, he was startled from his thoughts by the news that sounded. His voice sounded, a pleasant baratone, as he aqaited her approach.- "Then it seems I've come to the right place."

"I'm surprised to have found it so quickly though, luck must be on my side these days."

" Your luck would depend on your reason for approaching my land, Gilded one. We are quite tired of conflict. Why do you come here? " Kibela asked as she studied the large lion. His form was nicely built, and he was no doubt strong. He could be as big as the Firekin. But Kibela showed no sign of weariness to him. Kibela tended to be a very closed-off individual. It was very hard to tell just what she was thinking, or feeling.

However, she did not seem to be intimidated by the male, moving to sit before him casually, posture relaxed. " You do not seem the type to seek trouble. Perhaps another rogue come to join our home? " She hummed out curiously, not taking her eyes off him.

Kibela, herself, was obviously not of Firekin blood. Her form was a good bit smaller, and her coloring too was off. Though her patchy black pelt ended up fitting in well with her new pride. As did her blood red eyes.

-It was barely noticeable, but the very edges of his maw crept upwards at the mild threat. He was glad to see that, atleast in this case, the stories of his mother had been atleast partly true.

Stories, he'd found out, were often just that, stories made large to make them more exciting than they ever were. On more than one occassion Kardama had found himself dissapointed when he was faced with a truth far less thrilling then the image he'd made in his head. He'd actually braced himself for it this time, that the stories of his father's sister were perhaps inflated. But then... he'd heard of the Firekin again as he traveled near the ocean.-

"I find it hard to imagine anyone could be so dumb as to take on a pride all by themselves. Ecspecially one with a reputation like yours."

-Actually.. now that he thought about it.. His eyes narrowed a little quizically, taking in her figure. This... couldn't be his aunt could it? She WAS completely black. His golden eyes scanned the two tones of ebony however, and dismissed the thought, shaking his head and mane to break the line of vision and any discomfort it might have caused. And he answered honestly enough, finding no reason to hide the truth more than a little omission.- "I mostly came to see if the stories of the pride were true. Or if the promise of a pride of warriors in the desert was nothing more than a tale told by a rogue who got his hide handed to him."

"How does your pride feel about visitors?"

" You would be surprise. I've met many a fool who believed themselves invincible. " She murmured out, offering a slight quirk of a smile.

Her head cocked to the side curiously at his intense stare, but she didn't seem to be worried about it. Her ears perked as she got to her paws once more.

" Were you with an official of the pride, it could be acceptable. If you are truly curious about our Pride, I can escort you for a little while. " She offered to him, turning her back to him to began padding back up the dune to make her way back to the heart of their land.

She stopped before getting much distance, looking back over her shoulder to the male. " My name... It's Kibela. I am a Magistrate of the Firekin. Come, Gilded one, and I will allow you to see our home. " She said, was she waited for the male to follow, and, perhaps to introduce himself as well, though she didn't specifically ask for a name. She was content to call him 'Gilded one' for now.

-A slight scoff escaped him as she spoke, knowing in fact that she was quite right. He'd run into a bullheaded fool or two. Surely there would be a few lacking the self preservation and intellegence enough to cause trouble at one time or another.

When the offer sounded, a subtle but genuine smile touched his dark maw, paws falling into place after hers.- "If it's not too much trouble for you, I'd appreciate not to leave empty handed."

-Finding his request delievered, he followed respectfully, stopping a few feet behind her as she paused. This was indeed not his aunt No, but he had lucked out anyway to meet someone of such great importance. And, after a moment he offered his 'name'.. the code name his whole family had gone by in the past.- "Msimbo"

"You have my gratitude Kibela, I'll try not to overstay my welcome." -He added lightly, the subtlest bits of humor touching his throat. The whole experience had actually put him in a very good mood, though he wasn't always the sort to show it.-
