Have you ever bought a book just for the gift or other offer? |
Yes, I'm guilty of that. |

Nope, the necklace/other gift is just a nice addition to the story. |

Alright, well, I didn't really like the word choice for the title, but it seems to work...
Anyhow! Lately, I've been thinking of a seahorse necklace that I got with an Ariel book when I was a little girl. I always lost it, and found it again, and sadly the last time it was lost was the last time I ever saw it. So, I've been on a quest to find this book along with the necklace, just for the sake of reclaiming childhood memories once more.
During my search, I got to thinking, why did I beg my parents to buy me that book in the first place? I vaguely remember what it was about, but... not really. It was the necklace that I wanted, not the story. And so, we come to the topic at hand. xD
When you were young, or even now, were you or are you attracted to books because of a trinket inside or other gift offer?

For myself, I can't say I remember, but I do know I've had to explain at great length to my children why they can't have the shiny from the Scholastic Book Club because I can usually get the book sans trinket for free from the library.

Ah, the Scholastic Book Club. xD Notorious shiny distributors. I do remember them well, and wanting nearly everything in sight.
