First off, I've never read the book, so it's not like I have much to say about it. It's apparently a romance novel (not exactly my cup o' tea) which contains some time travel element to it. They're making a movie, and it seems like a big part of the story is about being in a relationship with someone who keeps bouncing back and forth in time relative to yourself, and how that would kind of make your relationship really suck. The closest thing Doctor Who's ever done to that would probably be that "Who turned out the lights?" two-parter last season.

Anyway, the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu8lYr0kf7g

Has anybody read this book? Is it the kind of chick lit that guys flee from out of fear of getting in touch with their feminine side?

It looks interesting, although since I'm not much of a romance novel person, I haven't read it. I might see the movie though, although it looks a lot more like a slightly less girly chick flick than usual.

And -- HEY! sweatdrop

Sorry, I couldn't resist! pirate

Judging from the trailer, I don't think this would be a movie I'd actually want to sit through. It looks a bit sappy. Ah, well, if time travel + romance doesn't work for me, there's always time travel + mindless violence = Terminator: Salvation.

/sigh... Terminator wasn't as good as I was expecting. Just your standard action movie, plus plot flaws.

This movie... I'm not so sure, I'm not really a fan of romance movies :S
Interesting idea though.

Aw, bummer. It looked pretty interesting in the commercials, unlike the 3rd one, which I didn't even bother to watch.

Come to think of it, the latest Star Trek was also a time travel movie. Quite a few of them this year, for some reason.

God forbid you call Time Traveler's Wife a sci-fi film (article on scifiwire.com)
There is a mega spoiler in the comments, so don't read those if you care about seeing the movie.

Um. Apparently it's not. According to the director.
"Time travel is just a very good metaphor." (Despite it being an actual thing in the film)

Despite a movie with "Time Travel" in the name and one of the main characters actually does travel in time, to a certain degree, this isn't a sci-fi film.

Sheesh, people, call it for what it is! confused
It's a romance, obviously, but you'd probably get more of an audience just because the words "Time" and "Travel" were put together. neutral

You've got that backwards; The Time Traveler's Wife came before Silence in the Library, so if anything it's Doctor Who that might have swiped a bit from the book, rather than vice versa. I haven't read it, so I don't have any opinion on the matter.

You know, I find it kind of ironic that the scifiwire.com article is taking the director to task for claiming the movie adaptation of Time Traveler's Wife is not a sci-fi flick when SciFi Wire itself is 'powered by SyFy', a cable network that altered its name from the SciFi Channel to something utterly moronic just to avoid the supposed baggage that comes with being a channel devoted to science fiction. Not that I necessarily disagree with what the article is saying, mind you, but it's kind of like the pot calling the kettle black.

From what I saw in the commercials, it felt more like Girl in the Fireplace
