I'm not sure but is salad a healthy food when it has salad dressing?
It's really confusing because the actual salad is healthy but I don't know about the dressing. I always eat salad with the dress (preferably Wishbone's salad dressings). Is there a better alternative for salad dressing because I like tangy dressings, not sweet or salty.

Any vinigrette style dressing is usually an 'ok' choice.
Beware of anything 'creamy' though, it usually packs a huge calorie punch.

If you like tangy, Annie's naturals has a dressing called Goddess Dressing. It's *so* good, I can hardly believe it, it's technically a cream dressing, but you need so little that it doesn't add much.

The other thing is that if you make your own salad dressing. My favourite is this one:

1/4 cup olive oil
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
Splash of balsamic
a few pressed cloves of garlic
Pepper and salt to taste
1 tsp (or more. : )) dijon mustard.

It's sooo tasty.

mmm salad dressing. Its good, but you gotta be careful. Just check the ingredients and how much oil etc is in it. It can really add to the calorie count of an otherwise really healthy salad. My favourite home made salad dressing is just olive oil and lemon juice mrgreen its very tangy

I think the point with salad dressings and even cream dressings, is that you don't use too much.

It's a shame that we even need them. In Italy, they don't give dressing with salads because you totally don't need them the flavor of the vegetables is so perfect that to put dressing on would be stupid. Here our vegetables are sprayed with chemicals, bred for their durability (in transport) and just in general not good. They're picked green and gassed to get their colour ''ripe'' before being put out in stores. It's just sad.

Either use a very small amount, or use lemon/lime juice instead. Instead of using dressing, I usually add a small amount of low-fat cheese and white chicken breast to make the salad a healthy meal. ^o^

Salad is extremely healthy with any dressing. There are a lot of good vitamins and anti-oxidants in there. However some dressings might be fatning and full of sodium.

Fish oil is very healthy, but, it is PURE FAT. There is such a thing as good fat but you can still get too much of it. Any kind of vinegar based dressing is usually very low in fat. Don't just pick "light" dressings though, as sometimes the ingredients they use to make them low cal or low fat can be very unhealthy. Just take a second to read the ingredients and fat and calorie content of different dressings next time you're in a grocery store.

When I get Subway, I'll get the sweet oignon dressing instead of ranch or other fatty dressings. They advertise 6 grams of fat for many of the subs, but that doesn't count the dressing.

Oh, I'm not putting the fish oil on my salad.
My salad dressing bottle said that it was rich with that so yeah.. XD
