I've noticed that some denominations feel that women should not allowed to be pastors of a church. What do you think? Yes, no, why?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 1:44 pm

It talks about the requirements to become a pastor or deacon in 1 Timothy 3. As part of women's punishment for eating the forbidden fruit and giving some to Adam, women are not allowed by the Word of God (Bible) to become ordained ministers. Notice how 1 Timothy 3 does not mention what a woman who is a minister or deacon should do, only a woman who is the wife of one of them. Sorry, LOSER, but women shouldn't be allowed to become ordained. Some spin-off denominations allow it and, therefore, are in direct disagreeal with God.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35 (King James Version)
34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

I think that people should be what called them to be and if a woman feels called to be a pastor then good for her. In fact I feel called to be a youth pastor.

On the bible passage of 1 Timothy 3 it mainly talks about deacons not pastors, and on the 1 Corinthians it is believed that is a response by Paul to woman in the Corinthian church not to the whole population of women.

Proverbs 16:25 (King James Version)
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

If what you feel you're being called to do contradicts the Bible, then it's not from God, period.

1 Corinthians is absolutely clear, and Paul's language is used in a broad sense. Scripture is often directed to certain people, but applies to all Christians, not just the ones referred to. By your logic, anything that is written in Galatians means nothing to us because we're not Galatians.

1 Timothy 2:9-14 (King James Version)
9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

13For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

Hm. So if I want to go teach sunday school, I'm only allowed to teach a class full of girls? After all, these verses indicate that I should not try to teach a male. What if they're six years old? Must I still submit to them? And if that's true, than wouldn't women have to submit to their male children as well? But then what about "honor thy mother?" To honor her requires your submission to her, to recognise that she is wise and to listen to the things she teaches you.

They teach that women do not have spiritual authority over men.

If you were teaching a group of children that aren't yours, this wouldn't apply anyway. "Honour thy mother" means to...well, honour your mother, not any other woman. In the case of being a pastor, the woman would not only be teaching her own children, so the point is moot.

I want to make it clear that this is not a matter of being chauvinistic, but rather it's a matter of men have their duties and women have their own duties. Men don't get pregnant, that's not a reason to be offended by a woman who can. The father is the spiritual head of the family, and the woman is not to usurp that. It's not a matter of opinion either, it's a matter of an exegetical reading of the text, and it's clear. It doesn't use alternative language like Jesus used to say He was God, it's extremely straightforward. Either you believe in Sola Scriptura or you don't, it's as simple as that, regardless of whether one finds it offensive or not.

Interesting Conversation.

My two cents: I've had a few female pasters, and majority of them were good pastors.

I've had many male pastors. Several sucked, a few were ok, one is my favorite pastor, and the others an idiot.

I find it disturbing to find a Bible Thumper here, but whatever. Christianty has far too many sub-divisions and cultural differences for me to care.

To be honest, I find it a bit disturbing that not enough people care about what the Bible says. Christian theology in its entirety comes from the Bible. If we pick and choose what we want to follow, then we end up being nothing but lukewarm hypocrites.

Just because a female has the charisma to give a biblical speech in frpnt of a group of people doesn't mean she should... as for those male pastors that sucks... I'm sure they tried their best and may just need to study up a bit.

The word of God is the word of God and there's nothing we can do to change it. God made things the way they are for a reason, and they are always good reasons. Let's not challenge our Lord, please?

I'm not religious. I'm spiritual. For me, its all about my relationship with god, and not theology.

Besides, no one has ever completely agreed with the bible.

If it is all about your relationship with God, then you shuold focus on obeying His commands. He, as Rin Kairiu said, made those rules for a reason. We have to take Him at his word that it is for our best interests.

John 14:15 (King James Version)
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Part of our relationship with God is knowing His Word and obeying His Word. Any spirit who tells us to avoid God's Word is demonic and should be condemned as such. Once again I quote Proverbs 16:25:

Proverbs 16:25
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

I honestly don't care if you think nobody has completely agreed with the Bible, because that doesn't mean you're correct. I believe in the Bible in its entirety for what it means to convey, and if someone else doesn't agree with the Bible, that doesn't make it any less God's Word. When you place the opinions of Man above the Word of God, you're following a false religion which leads to the pits of Hell. I'm sorry, but I don't think enough people talk about Hell or the Wrath of God for the sake of not offending others. I am not ashamed of what the Bible says and I stand by it because I am a child of God. Being spiritual doesn't mean being saved. There are other spirits out there and many of them are not Godly. This is why we are told to read our Bibles and discern through the Holy Spirit what God's will is, because many of the denominations we see result from people not believing the Bible for the sake of Man's opinion and worldly idealogies.

I think girls should be able to be pasters if that is what they believe they want. I have a few female pasters and they are wonderful at it. Just because they are females does not mean they cant't do it. I think some male pasters are getting to full of themselves anymore, or at lest some i have meet.
