So I'm just wondering, would it be better to GET someone something or GIVE someone something? For instance, would it be better to GET my girlfriend (I don't really have one, but just pretend I'm cool and that I do.) a ring or GIVE my girlfriend a ring?

I'd say give, 'get' sounds more like just going to the store and buying a ring, 'giving' sounds more meaningful. =]

Well you have to get something in order to give it, so I guess I'll go with 'get' since it's the idea that starts it. Although getting sounds like it's expected and giving sounds more like a surprise.
