about 3, maybe 4, years ago i wrote the beginnings of a story. i got pretty well into it plot-wise, but it needed major editing and development which i didn't have the time to put in right then. so i filed it away. i made sure i had a hard copy (3 actually) as well as digital, but i didn't bother e-mailing it to myself, or uploading it to any of my sites.
18 months ago i moved. just before i did, i threw out a whole bunch of stuff, including my story files and folders which i hadn't used in more than 6 months, because i had all of the info on my computer.
a year ago, my motherboard blew and although they managed to save the hard drive, i don't have money for a converter case thingy, so i can't access the files. and i would really have liked to have gone over it and reworked it. it's been bugging me a couple days now.

Wow, that's rough.
For future reasons, you should keep a flash drive as a portfolio. I made the mistake of not saving my work and using a public computer. So, I've written all these short stories and I can't find them anywhere because I didn't save it electronically. Hard copies are good, but they get lost. sweatdrop
Just work up until you have enough money I guess. But always have a flash drive!

that's the thing... i last worked on it probably about 32 months ago and in between i've worked on 7 or 8 other serials and probably about 12 one-shots, so i remember the basic plotline of the first two or three parts and the three of the main characters but i can't even remember their names.
i can't even be sure that the info is still on my hard drive... gonk crying

Final Regular Season Record: Thomas Vanek&&; Once you get the money, you can afford to get a converter and get back the old work you lost. If it's bugging you that badly then you should give yourself a chance to fix it, yes?

Do you have a library around you? i don't think it's actually the computer that's the problem, i think there may just be a problem with one of the programs. and yes, there is a library near here, but they don't have computers. it's Africa dahling - public computers end up being way expensive to use. sweatdrop

Derek Roy&&; 41-32-9 Thank you, Sabres! i see your point. but with the rate that i earn and all the other things i have to pay it'll likely be a year or more before i can afford a converter.

Hm...okay, did you only type up this story on the computer? Do you remember where you left off? Writing on paper isn't so bad, if you remember how your story went...
Derek Roy&&; 41-32-9 Thank you, Sabres!

Derek Roy&&; 41-32-9 Thank you, Sabres! the only "surviving" copy is on my hard drive. i DID keep hard copies but i threw them out with a whole lot of my other papers when i moved because i didn't have space in the car to transport them to the new house.
